Causes: Crime & Law, Domestic Violence, Ethnic & Immigrant Centers, Human Services, Immigration, Mental Health, Protection Against Abuse

Mission: To promote a stronger and healthier South Asian community through confidential support services, education and advocacy.

Results: Raksha is the only social service agency providing services for the South Asian community. Raksha has been doing this since 1995. Over 20,000 calls and 3,000 individuals have been helped. Since we turned on our phones and opened our doors, Raksha has touched the lives of thousands of South Asians within Atlanta with counseling services, advocacy, and education. Raksha’s staff has been recognized nationally and locally. Most recently, the Executive Director was named a White House Champion of Change and Georgia’s Asian’s Times Most Influential Asian Americans in Georgia. Raksha staff and volunteers have participated in over 350 Local, State, and National training programs. Raksha has some of the most skilled professionals in the Country.

Target demographics: provide the South Asian community with tools for a stronger, healthier, and safer South Asian Community!!

Direct beneficiaries per year: 220 adult and children survivors of family and sexual violence, 125 agencies, 80 community members seeking supportive services, trained over 130 law enforcement officers and criminal justice professionals

Programs: Multi-Cultural- Multilingual Counseling (Individual and Group) Advocacy (Individual and Systemic) Supportive Services Education and Outreach Training of service providers and criminal justice professionals Referrals for Pro-bono and Sliding Scale Legal help (Family law, Immigration Law, Criminal law) Referrals to other social, medical and economic supports Providing culturally specific clothing and food to our clients

I have seen if this is not in their boundary of work then, they will also refer you to the right person and follow up to see that the issue has been taken care of.

Raksha is an amazing non profit in Georgia that promotes a stronger and healthier South Asian community through confidential support services, advocacy,and education. Raksha has been recognized by Anti- Defamation League for closing the book on hate, the Gandhi Foundation, IACA, and received the Creating the Voice Award. Raksha address family violence in Georgia's South Asian community and parnters with many mainstream partners- for example working to ensure an immigrant section in the domestic violence bench book, training law enforcement on barriers facing immigrant communities. Raksha played a key role in creation of International Women's House and Tapestri. Raksha was the first social service agency geared to the South Asian community in the Southeast United States. We get call from all over the Southeast, United States and World. Raksha fulfils a great need in our community.
