Furley, Sir John (1836–1919), promoter of first aid and ambulance organization

Sir John Furley promoted the foundation of the British Red Cross, to aid the sick and wounded in war, and the St John Ambulance Association and St John Ambulance Brigade, to provide life-saving first aid in peacetime. He was made a Companion of Honour in 1918.
