Movement Groups & Affiliates

How can I be part of the program?

As a new or more established community group or affiliate. This can be any group: Thematic, Regional, Smaller User Groups, Affiliates etc.

This is the space for you to highlight the people behind the projects and initiatives your organization has been a part of. Use this space to share the impact you were able to make in your community and beyond. As an organization you will have ample opportunities to showcase talent, work and celebrate your achievements.

What formats are accepted?

  • Lectures,
  • Roundtable discussions,
  • Workshops,
  • Tutorials,
  • Lightning talks,
  • Celebrations,
  • Case studies,
  • Panel discussions,
  • Other - choose your own

In what languages can I submit my session proposal?

English Only. This will enable all reviewers to understand the essence of your proposal. You can choose to present your session in your own language. Please refer to the below for more on this.

Live or Pre-recorded Session?

Both are possible. However, if the format of your session requires discussion or live engagement from the audience, we suggest a live session.

In what languages can I present?

  • Live Sessions: Any language you would like to, but if it is other than English, we will not be able to support live translation.
  • Pre-recorded Sessions: Any language you would like to.

What is my time allocation?

There is a difference in how time is being allocated per track. Different formats will be receiving a difference in time allocation. Allocation includes time for Question & Answer. We’ll explain the differences below.

  • Lecture-based session or Case Study: 15 mins presentation + 5 mins of Question & Answer
  • Roundtable discussion or Panel Discussion: 45 mins
  • Workshop or Tutorial: 45 mins
  • Celebration/Entertainment: 30 mins
  • Lightning Talk: 10 mins

What does a submission process look like?

  • Review - Private review process split by programming working group members, Wikimania steering committee and volunteers.
  • Approval - based on the quality of proposal and fit of criteria.
  • Acceptance - we will communicate back with you if your submission has been accepted.
  • Allocation - date/time confirmed once accepted.

Who will be reviewing?

  • Programming working group members
  • Session review volunteers

Will my submission be public?

In the session submission form we will ask if the submitters would like to have their submission public. If the answer is yes, then we will make it public on-wiki.

Is the speaker training program mandatory to follow?

The speaker training is not a mandatory requirement, but it might increase your chances to be accepted into the program.

Individual/Collective Submission

How can I be part of the program?

You can submit your session proposal to facilitate or lead a session you deem to fit with this year’s theme.

What is a collective?

Groups of two or more people submitting a proposal to present on a topic together is a collective submission.
