The data for this fact sheet were drawn from the California Health Interview Survey 2017-2018, California Smokersā€™ Helpline Caller Intake Reports January-June 2020, and the Statewide 2017-2018 California Student Tobacco Survey.


Key Findings from the Online California Adult Tobacco Survey 2020 (PDF)

The Online California Adult Tobacco Survey (Online CATS) is an online survey that gathers data on tobacco use behavior and tobacco-related beliefs among California residents age 18 to 64. Online CATS is primarily used to help prioritize interventions and guide specific tobacco control related campaigns. This document highlights key data from the 2019 and 2020 waves of Online CATS.

This fact sheet highlights the impacts of decreasing and increasing the price of tobacco products. Evidence-based strategies to influence the price of tobacco products are also provided.

California Tobacco Retail Surveillance Study Report 2018 (PDF)

This report reviews the results of the California Tobacco Retail Surveillance Study (CTRSS; formerly known as the California Tobacco Advertising Study, CTAS) 2018. The study characterized the retail availability of tobacco in a large, representative sample of licensed tobacco retailers in the state, and assessed neighborhood differences in product availability and the presence of advertising and promotions.

This report presents the results of the 2017-2018 California Student Tobacco Survey (CSTS), a biennial, statewide survey of tobacco use, behaviors and attitudes among youth in California. 


California Tobacco Retail Surveillance Study 2017 (PDF)

This report reviews the results of the California Tobacco Retail Surveillance Study (CTRSS; formerly known as the California Tobacco Advertising Study, CTAS) 2017. This study assessed the availability, placement, and promotions of tobacco products in the retail setting, as well as changes among these items since 2014.

This report reviews the results of the 2015-2016 California Student Tobacco Survey (CSTS), a biennial survey of tobacco use, behaviors and attitudes among youth in California. 


California Smokers' Cohort 2011 (PDF)

The 2011 California Smoker Cohort survey investigated current cigarette smokers' tobacco-related behaviors, knowledge of and attitudes towards smoking and cessation among California adults from a longitudinal perspective and monitored the effect of state-initiated tobacco control programs on target populations. This report describes the methodology of the 2011 California Smoker Cohort and describes changes of smoking behavior over a 12-month follow-up period, suggesting the effectiveness of state-initiated tobacco control programs.
