    You know what is more regressive than inflation? Not having a child allowance, paid family and sick leave, pre-K, free community college, etc

    In fact, the administration tried hard to inject even more stimulus into an already over-heated, inflationary economy and only Manchin saved them from themselves. Inflation is a regressive tax that most hurts the least affluent. Misdirection doesn’t help the country.

    Nice visualizations here showing how much smaller a role labor costs have played in recent price increases compared with historical episodes of rising prices. The contrast with the 70s is especially striking.

    yes that's a useful angle..... here's the same thing but not "excess" - just straight contributions: orange=labor, blue=profit, green=inflation%rate (NFC-IPD) i think this is a good way to see how inflation is usually "labor-intensive" but is much less so this time

    I do not understand this at all. Where is the deal-making mentality in the Senate? Take your lumps _somewhere_ and pass _something_. It's absolutely incredible that we could fumble this.

    I think gentrification as commonly used is a borderline useless term is because it conflates real & concrete harms such as "no working class people can afford housing in areas close to jobs & transit" with "the ✨vibe ✨has changed, it's not authentic anymore"

    yup, and it's just completely stupid and unfair. people who manage to buy in get basically Ponzi-scheme style appreciation, and then everyone is like "damn why does housing cost so much"

    At some point along the way it was decided that homes are not actually for housing people but rather for generating wealth and that is why we are where we are
