I wrote a profile of Larry Summers (and of the inflation debate, and of the past half-century macroeconomic thought in the United States)

You know what is more regressive than inflation? Not having a child allowance, paid family and sick leave, pre-K, free community college, etc

“I love you, but I would love you more,” Ted Nugent tells the audience at Trump’s rally, “if you went out and just went berserk on the skulls of the Democrats and the marxists and the communists.” “Evil” must be “stamped out.”

(but it's also just a shitty cold and I feel super grateful that I had the opportunity to be vaccinated, and excited by the possibilities we could open up by making further public investments in forms of innovation that have similarly immense social value)

Nice visualizations here showing how much smaller a role labor costs have played in recent price increases compared with historical episodes of rising prices. The contrast with the 70s is especially striking.

I do not understand this at all. Where is the deal-making mentality in the Senate? Take your lumps _somewhere_ and pass _something_. It's absolutely incredible that we could fumble this.

I think gentrification as commonly used is a borderline useless term is because it conflates real & concrete harms such as "no working class people can afford housing in areas close to jobs & transit" with "the ✨vibe ✨has changed, it's not authentic anymore"

yup, and it's just completely stupid and unfair. people who manage to buy in get basically Ponzi-scheme style appreciation, and then everyone is like "damn why does housing cost so much"

If white people keep falling for hucksters who are like "advancing my career just so happens to always be the best way for you to fight racism!" then it's gonna be a long fight. This is why it's so important you cite my articles, to ensure the good anti-racist praxis is boosted.

The whole fact check genre is bankrupt, but the fact of the matter is: — The head of the Senate GOP campaign arm put out a plan to raise taxes — Mitch McConnell got mad at him because this is unpopular but has refused to say what his actual policy agenda is
