The Poole Yacht Club has a membership of approximately 1800. It provides a sail and power boat training programme to Club members and associated training to ensure that volunteers have the necessary skills to support the requirements of the sailing, training and racing programmes; VHF, First Aid, Race Officer, Race Officer Assistant, Assistant and Dinghy Instructor.

The size and scope of the programme is now such that the Clubs Management Committee has decided that it is necessary to appoint a sailing professional to

  1. Act as Principal for The Poole Yacht Club as a RYA training centre
  2. Promote The Poole Yacht Club as a location for external sailing events
  3. Take a lead role in the planning, delivery, and administration of the training / coaching programme
  4. Assist in supporting and developing the Clubs dinghy and cruiser sailing and racing programme

We are seeking to appoint a part time instructor, to join our Outdoor Education department in May 2021.

The main role will be coaching sailing, canoeing and kayaking, but if suitably qualified leading DofE expeditions and delivering other activities. The post holder should be as a minimum RYA Dinghy Instructor and BC Level 1 Paddlesports Instructor.

The department typically operates Monday through Friday afternoons during term time, but some Saturday/full weekends and school holiday work will be required. Typically staff work 3-5 days per week with 6 hours/day during summer and 4 hours/day in winter.

JSASTC is recruiting enthusiastic and outgoing Sailing Instructors to deliver RYA Offshore courses to Service Personnel as part of a team of 20 sailing staff at JSASTC operating from the MOD services offshore sailing centre based in Gosport. Suitable candidates will have a strong sailing background, high standards, and excellent inter-personal skills. Instructional experience is ideal, but newly qualified Instructors are welcome to apply. Up to 20 weeks per annum pro rata on water training delivery is required with the balance of working days spent on yacht maintenance and/or delivering RYA classroom training. Sailing activity is only delivered Mon to Fri – weekend sailing activity is not conducted. Normal non sailing working hours are Mon to Thu 0800-1630hrs, Fri 0800-1600hrs.

Essential: Up to date RYA Yachtmaster Instructor or Cruising Instructor with at least one year remaining before revalidation, up to date First Aid, Commercial endorsement and ML5 with at least six months. 

Desirable: Classroom, Diesel, First Aid, Radar or Sea Survival Instructor.
