Led by @MattAHall, we attempt to bridge the worlds of ABM & LGBTQ studies (in particular, studies of workplace inequalities). We think there is real scope to develop novel insights & contribute to richer theorising & empirical work, while also improving our modelling practice.
New working paper
"Queer(y)ing Agent-Based Modelling: An
example from LGBTQ workplace studies"
Explores the contribution #ABM can make to the study of #LGBTQ workplace inequalities & how intersectional and queer theoretical insights can inform ABM

We discuss the methodological binarism in LGBTQ workplace studies, and position ABM as a link between the qual and quant streams of literature. For those new to it, we introduce ABM and the use of the ideas and methods of complexity in social science.

We use a model we built (duh!) to illustrate how ABM can be used here, we also consider whether it is an 'intersectionality-consistent' method and whether it can be a 'queer methodology'. Some really useful and interesting reflections on the act of modelling here I think.
