Jeri Walker, RN

Jeri Walker, RN, is our most recent addition to our wound care clinic staff.  She is a certified wound care nurse through the Wound Care Education Institute (WCEI).  Many of our patients are familiar with Jeri as she has been a nurse not only in CPMC's surgical services department, but also in the long term care community.  Since becoming a registered nurse in 1999, Jeri has loved the opportunity to help patients feel better and improve their health.

You have a chronic wound, now what?

Why did this happen?

Most non-healing wounds happen because of factors outside of your control.  Conditions like diabetes, venous insufficiency, and arterial disease make it difficult for your body to heal.  Your blood flow might not be healthy, keeping oxygen and nutrients from reaching your wound once it occurs.  All of this can cause a delay in the healing of your wound.

Some indications for wound therapy include:

  • Pressure ulcers
  • Surgical wounds
  • Diabetic ulcers
  • Vasculitis/edema (swelling of extremities)
  • Neuropathic ulcers
  • Burns
  • Ischemic ulcers
  • Peristomal skin irritations
  • Venous insufficiency
  • Traumatic wounds
  • Other chronic, non-healing wounds

We can help!

The Betty Baker Wound Care Center at Colorado Plains Medical Center's staff will develop a treatment program based on the patient's individual needs.  The program will include regular visits to the Wound Care Center to provide treatment, evaluate progress, and make changes needed to improve the healing process.  The Wound Care Center staff utilizes the newest clinical tools in wound healing as well as traditional clinical practices including:

  • Wound dressings
  • Compression therapy
  • Edema management
  • Non-invasive vascular assessment
