About our ER

At Colorado Plains Medical Center we see it all, every day - from bike accidents to car accidents, and from the unexpected broken finger, to the fear of a failing heart.  Our highly skilled emergency physicians and nursing teams stand ready to handle whatever emergency life brings your way.  The 8-bed Emergency Department provides life-saving medical care, 24-hours a day, seven days a week, with 24-hour physician staffing.

We are a Level III Trauma Center designated by the State of Colorado.  CPMC has held this designation since 1991.  Every three years an extensive review is performed by a team of trauma specialists who perform document and chart reviews, tour the facility, and make recommendations for improvement.  Our most recent review was in January 2019.

We can provide quality care fast, too, with some of the lowest ER wait times in the region (Faster than national average as found on medicare.gov/hospitalcompare) More importantly, though, we are dedicated to provide you and your family with efficient, safe, and compassionate care.   Dr. Bentley Tate, a 27-year ER physician veteran at CPMC is our medical director of the department.  We are aided in our lifesaving care with technology that includes a 64-slice CT scan; a full-time county ambulance/EMS crew; a 1.5 Tesla MRI, and a rooftop helipad located on the CPMC campus.

Out of the more than 30,000 patients treated at Colorado Plains Medical Center in 2019, more than 8,500 were treated by the ER staff.  Approximately half, 4,250 were trauma cases, and 227 of these cases were considered serious trauma patients in which a code was activated or a transfer was required and included victims of motor vehicle accidents, occupational injuries, heart attacks and strokes.
