SAGE Journals Article Sharing
SAGE Journals article access sharing lets you share a read-only version of an article with your friends and colleagues or on social media.
What does it give access to?
-
Anyone who has been sent a link can view a read-only version of a journal article without having to be a subscriber, allowing for journal content to be shared and accessed more widely.
-
The recipient can view the article in the EPUB format in the e-Reader (see below, "What is the e-Reader" for more information).
-
As this is a read-only EPUB version accessible only via the e-Reader, the recipient will not be able to view the HTML or PDF version of the article, view it offline, or print or download it, unless they also have authenticated full-text access to the article by other means such as a subscription.
Who can generate the access sharing links?
-
Anyone who has authenticated full-text access to an article through their library's subscription, individual subscription, or as a society member benefit, can generate and share an access sharing link.
-
Authors can use these access sharing links to promote their article, including in press coverage. Please refer to our author sharing policy to see your other options for permanently sharing previous versions of your article.
-
Some users will not be able to generate or share access sharing links: those accessing the article via individual or institutional pay-per-view purchase and those accessing through an individual free trial.
Which articles can be shared?
-
Any subscription article with an EPUB version (EPUB is a file format for electronic publications allowing the text to adapt to the screen size.) This is most articles published since 2011. An "Open EPUB" button appears in the article menu if an EPUB version is available.
-
PDF-only articles do not have an EPUB version or access sharing available.
-
Open access articles do not have access sharing enabled as these articles can be shared with anyone using their regular article URLs or DOIs. (Most open access articles published since 2011 will still have an EPUB version available).
Do the read-only access sharing links expire?
-
Yes, links will expire 90 days after the link is generated.
-
For a limited number of journals, article sharing links will be valid for only up to 100 instances of access ("click-throughs") or 30 days, whichever occurs sooner.
Are there rules on what I can do with the shareable article links?
Creating and sharing links should be limited to reasonable, non-commercial, and non-systematic use.
Article links may be shared for personal, education, and scientific research use by recipients and may be shared as follows:
-
Emailed to a friend or colleague;
-
Posted on social media sites such as Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn;
-
Included in a press release or other press coverage of an article;
-
Posted on the author's personal or department webpage or author CV.
The terms of the Terms & Conditions of Use for SAGE Journals will apply to all creation, access, and use of shared articles.SAGE reserves the right to change these article access sharing terms at any time, and in such event will modify this policy in writing. SAGE additionally reserves the right to monitor and address abuse of the article-sharing functionality.
