Causes: Environment

Mission: TO TRANSFORM THE WAY BUILDINGS AND COMMUNITIES ARE DESIGNED, BUILT AND OPERATED. ENABLING AN ENVIRONMENTALLY AND SOCIALLY RESPONSIBLE. HEALTHY, AND PROSPEROUS ENVIRONMENT THAT IMPROVES THE QUALITY OF LIFE.

Programs: The leed green building certification system is the preeminent program for rating the design, construction and operation of green buildings. 59,000 projects are currently participating in the leed system, comprising over 10 billion square feet of construction space in all 50 states and 135 countries. By using less energy, leed-certified buildings save money for families, businesses and taxpayers; reduce greenhouse gas emissions; and contribute to a healthier environment for residents, workers and the larger community.

members:usgbc's actively engaged member community is at the core of usgbc's mission and drives the work of usgbc. At the national level, usgbc's member organizations support usgbc's mission-focused initiatives. Employees of member organizations serve on committees that drive the development of leed, education and events, advocacy work and other programs. Members vote to fill leadership positions and to approve changes to the leed rating systems. Chapters:usgbc's chapter network is the local outreach effort promoting the green building movement in communities and regions throughout the country. Individuals who are chapter members are on-the-ground advocates sharing ideas, networking and educating. Chapters spread information and education throughout their communities. There is also an active network of emerging professionals groups in chapters nationwide that are given opportunities to hone their leadership and professional skills.

greenbuild:the world's largest conference and expo dedicated to green building. Each year, tens of thousands of professionals from all over the world attend this can't-miss event.

I have been involved with the USGBC at our local chapter level and the last few years at a national level. I started soon after graduating (starting our local Emerging Professionals group), joined our local board, and grew up professionally through the organization. Through my involvement I built a huge network locally and nationally. My involvement has led to professional growth, job opportunities, opportunities for me to share with others, and most importantly strong relationships / friendships. If interested the USGBC allows for you to get involved and use your talents to their potential. The organization itself offers strong programming and is constantly evolving to new trends - from green buildings to green communities to human health to community building to.....

It has been an honor being involved and growing through the USGBC and feels more like a family some times. Many times I meet a recent graduate I encourage them to get involved and emphasize the USGBC's opportunities. I am looking forward to our organizations next steps and Advancement.

I have volunteered with USGBC for over a decade now. Their mission is not a small one, but it is a very worthy one that offers benefits to everyone not just a particular demographic. Their mission is one I believe in and stand proudly for. I have been a dedicated volunteer for this very reason. They get results and have helped to change the world by helping people become more accountable for their actions and their buildings. I have become more responsible since I have been involved in the organization.

I have been an avid volunteer with the USGBC for nearly a decade. Their mission is bold and their impact on our built environment is evident by the prevalence of LEED in the marketplace and high level of awareness across many parts of our society. USGBC staff and volunteers are some of the most driven and passionate people I've ever met and I've made some great friends as a result of my involvement with this amazing nonprofit organization.

USGBC nurtures the space of possibility and action where programs such as LEED for Neighborhood Development can be created. LEED for Neighborhood Development is potentially the most transformative and powerful tool we have for influencing and establishing holistic and sustainable communities. But we have to use it. LEED-ND's inherent power and its beauty begins by integrating its holistic framework into our comprehensive plans, zoning ordinances, and subdivision regulations so we can create and guide the sustainable future for the places we call, home, neighborhood, community...and earth.

I volunteered through USGBC's Green Apple Day of Service. It was a great, and well organized, event at a local school. I worked with other volunteers and two teachers to help implement green cleaning practices. We also planted a garden in the front of the school.
