Aetna Institute of Quality – Orthopedic Care 

Aetna Institute of Quality

Our Los Gatos and Mountain View hospitals have been designated an Aetna Institute of Quality® (IOQ) Orthopedic Care Facility for spine surgery.

Additionally, Mountain View Hospital also qualified for the Aetna IOQ for total joint replacement. Designated IOQ facilities demonstrate excellence in clinical quality, value and access for orthopedic care, and a commitment to continuous improvement.

American Association of Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehabilitation

American Association of Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehabilitation

Since 2005, the Cardiac & Pulmonary Wellness Center in Mountain View has been consistently recognized by the American Association of Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehabilitation (AACVPR) for our commitment to enhancing standards of care in the delivery of our cardiac and pulmonary rehabilitation programs. Certified AACVPR programs are recognized as leaders in the field of cardiovascular and pulmonary rehabilitation because they offer the most advanced practices available. AACVPR certification is valid for three years.

American College of Cardiology (ACC) Transcatheter Valve Certification

El Camino Health has been recognized with the Transcatheter Valve Certification from the American College of Cardiology (ACC), acknowledging its exceptional program, physician leadership, quality patient outcomes and team-based care. El Camino Health is the first health care organization in the state of California to receive this certification.

The ACC’s Transcatheter Valve Certification is an external review and certification process that identifies hospitals that are currently implementing best practices and clinical excellence in transcatheter valve procedures, which include replacing the aortic valve or repairing the mitral or tricuspid valves using minimally invasive techniques. El Camino Health’s Norma Melchor Heart and Vascular Institute is recognized for its uniquely high quality, pioneering work in the heart valve space and offers advanced cardiac and vascular care at every stage of the health care continuum.

Our Los Gatos and Mountain View hospitals have received Magnet designation by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC). The ANCC Magnet Recognition Program recognizes hospitals that provide the very best in nursing care.

Mountain View Hospital (El Camino Hospital) was the first hospital in Bay Area to earn Magnet designation.

Baby-Friendly® Designated Hospital

Baby Friendly Award

Baby-Friendly USA has designated Los Gatos Hospital as a Baby-Friendly® Hospital. Developed by the World Health Organization (WHO) and the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), the Baby-Friendly Hospital Initiative encourages and recognizes hospitals and birthing centers that offer an optimal level of care for breastfeeding mothers and their babies. The prestigious recognition is given after the implementation of Ten Steps to Successful Breastfeeding and a rigorous on-site survey is completed.

Los Gatos Hospital was the first hospital in Santa Clara County to earn the Baby-Friendly designation. 

Blue Distinction Center® for Knee and Hip Replacement, Spine Surgery and Bariatric Surgery

Blue Shield of California has designated Mountain View Hospital as a Blue Distinction Center for Bariatric Surgery, Hip and Knee Replacement and Spine Surgery. These designations mean the hospital has demonstrated expertise in delivering quality healthcare.

El Camino Health has been formally recognized by the College of Healthcare Information Management Executives (CHIME) as a 2020 Digital Health Most Wired organization, climbing up to a Level Nine certification in 2020 after earning a Level Eight certification in 2019. CHIME’s award recognizes organizations around the world which adopt and implement information technology in an optimal manner to elevate the health care, clinical and business services offered to their communities. Level Nine winners like El Camino Health are noted as leaders in health care technology using innovative methods to push the industry forward.

Our Cancer Center has earned the Commission on Cancer (CoC) of the American College of Surgeons (ACS) 2019 Outstanding Achievement Award (OAA). The award recognizes cancer programs that strive for excellence in demonstrating compliance with the CoC standards and are committed to ensuring high quality cancer care. In 2019, 49 accredited cancer programs throughout the United States earned the OAA.

The Gold Seal of Approval is a symbol of quality that reflects an organization’s commitment to providing safe and effective patient care. The Joint Commission awarded our Los Gatos and Mountain View hospitals a Disease-Specific Care Certification for the management of sepsis. This certification demonstrates a high level of care for patients with sepsis.

To achieve this designation from The Joint Commission, El Camino Hospital demonstrated that its Stroke Program meets national standards and guidelines to significantly improve outcomes for stroke, the nation's third leading cause of death. With this designation, El Camino Health joins the elite ranks of Primary Stroke Centers across the U.S.

The Joint Commission's Disease Specific Certification standards address important functions relating to the care of patients and the management of hospitals. The Joint Commission awarded Los Gatos Hospital certification in Hip and Knee Replacement, as well as Spinal Fusion Surgery. The certification is a widely recognized benchmark for overall program quality.

Mountain View Hospital (El Camino Hospital) is the first California hospital to be certified by The Joint Commission in three areas for hip and knee surgery: Hip replacement, Hip Fracture and Knee Replacement.

The Joint Commission stated that each of the three programs at Mountain View Hospital met standards with no areas of deficiency or recommendations necessary, earning it Disease-Specific Care Certification. This means that patient outcomes and satisfaction scores are among the best in the country.

Gold Plus Award from the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association

The American Heart Association and American Stroke Association recognizes Mountain View Hospital for achieving 85 percent or higher compliance with all Get With The Guidelines®-Stroke Achievement Measures and 75 percent or higher compliance with five or more Get With The Guidelines®-Stroke Quality Measures for two or more consecutive years and achieving Time to Thrombolytic Therapy ≤ 45 minutes 75 percent or more and ≤ 30 minutes 50 percent or more of applicable acute ischemic stroke patients to improve quality of patient care and outcomes.

The Human Rights Campaign Foundation (HRC), the educational arm of the nation’s largest lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ) civil rights organization, has designated our Los Gatos and Mountain View hospitals as a “Leader in LGBTQ Healthcare Equality.” The designation demonstrates our commitment to foundational elements of LGBTQ patient-centered care, LGBTQ Patient Services and Support, Employee Benefits and Policies, and LGBTQ Patient and Community Engagement.

Nationally Recognized with ‘A’ Grade in Leapfrog Hospital Safety Program

Leapfrog Hospital Safety Program

El Camino Health earned an ‘A’ in the Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade program at its Mountain View hospital, recognizing the health system’s commitment to providing safe, high-quality care to patients.

Leapfrog measures publicly available safety data to grade more than 2,600 U.S. acute-care hospitals twice per year with A, B, C, D or F ratings based on their performance to prevent errors, injuries, accidents and infections. The hospital rating is an improvement for El Camino Health since its spring rating, and this is the first ‘A’ earned for its Mountain View campus.

Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Accreditation and Quality Improvement Program

Weight Loss Surgery Program in Mountain View is accredited by the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery, a quality program in conjunction with the American College of Surgeons. To achieve this designation, our program met defined standards of care, documented our outcomes, and participated in periodic reviews and on-site verification to assure high-quality patient care.

NICHE (Nurses Improving Care for Healthsystem Elders) "Exemplar" Designation

Our Los Gatos and Mountain View hospitals have earned Exemplar status — the highest level of implementation — for its NICHE program. NICHE designation indicates a hospital's commitment to excellence in the care of patients 65 and older. Since implementing the NICHE program in 2011, the hospitals have received resources, evidenced-based tools, structure and a collaborative community to stimulate change and support enhanced care for older patients.

Optum Centers of Excellence – Bariatric Resource Services

Optum™ Centers of Excellent

Optum™ has recognized our Weight Loss Surgery Program in Mountain View as a designated member of the Centers of Excellence network in the area of Bariatric Resource Services. To earn this designation, we met or exceeded rigorous performance standards and quality guidelines in weight loss surgery and care. These standards increase the likelihood of superior outcomes and reduced costs.
