We are seeking an Assistant Head of Inshore Boating who will help the support and development of safe, enjoyable yet challenging Inshore Boating, as part of the Cadet Experience across the charity. The ideal candidate will be qualified to RYA Dinghy Coach Assessor, Powerboat/Windsurf Trainer or British Canoeing Coach Educator and holding at least one other NGB boating instructor award

Key areas will focus on:

- Assurance

- Health and safety focusing on 3 elements of inshore boating (Programme, Instructors and Equipment

- Lead the development of operating standards for inshore boating.

- Coordinate staffing for all inshore boating instructor training across charity.

- Site / audit visits

We are now looking for an RYA Senior Instructor to take on the Chief Instructor role on a full time, permanent basis. The role requires a flexible approach with the successful candidate working a minimum of 37hr contract over weekends, evenings and bank holidays as required. Typical working week Wednesday – Sunday, but potentially could be a job share for the right candidates.

Our training is growing in interest and numbers, offering a year-round training programme including RYA courses for both adult and young sailors. The training team currently consists of the Chief Self-managing individual.

Experience & Qualifications:

Essential:

  • RYA Dingy Senior Instructor
  • RYA Powerboat Instructor/ RYA Advanced Powerboat Instructor
  • Keelboat endorsed
  • RYA Race Instructor
  • First Aid Instructor or/and SRC Instructor
  • General Boat maintenance and repairs
  • Microsoft Office Skills
  • Good communication skills
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience working at a recognised training centre as an active SI

Desirable:

  • Tidal experience would be an advantage
  • Racing experience
  • Experience in providing safety cover for racing events
  • BSUPA Instructor
  • Cruisers sailing experience
  • Self-managing individual​

Chief Instructor. Youth Training operates between April and September and is aimed at young people aged between 8 – 16. During school term times the Youth Sailing Club which operates Fridays (16:30-18:30) and Saturdays (10.00-12:00.) In addition to this the Chief Instructor provides our Junior Training during periods of school holidays. These courses run for 3 – 5 days duration.

Ideally we seek to appoint someone able to offer RYA Dinghy Sailing (Levels 1 & 2,) (Keelboat Levels 1 & 2) Powerboat Level 2 and RYA Safety Boat. As a minimum the post holder must be suitably qualified and experienced to offer safe dinghy coaching and instruction. ​
