Head Instructor (Trevassack Lake)

Location: Helford Area, Cornwall
Status: Permanent, Full Time
Salary: £22,000-£24,000
Start date: 1 March 2021

About the Trust

CST is a youth charity based in Cornwall that offers access to sailing and water activities to children aged 8-14, as well as children and young adults with additional needs. We are passionate about using these activities as a tool to develop confidence, competence and resilience enabling participants to reach their full potential in life. One of our key beliefs is that there should be no financial barrier to any of our activities. We currently offer activities on the very attractive sailing waters of the Helford River to over 600 participants per year by way of a term time schools programme and holiday courses. The Trust is a growing organisation and is currently developing a new additional water sports centre at Trevassack Lake, due to open late Spring 2021. Working alongside our current activities, the Lake will enable us to offer more water sports opportunities to a wider range of participants.

Role Overview

Working under the direction of the Activities Manager, the Head Instructor for Trevassack Lake takes an operational lead in the delivery of high quality water sports sessions to a wide variety of groups and individuals.
This is an exciting time of growth for the Trust, with potential for the right candidate to influence the nature of accessible water sport opportunities with us.

Experience & Qualifications:

Essential:

• RYA Senior Dinghy Instructor
• Minimum of 2 years experience working in a RTC as an active SI
• Experience in delivering a range of SEND watersport sessions

Desirable:

• BC Paddlesports Leader
• RYA Powerboat Instructor
• RYA Sailability Awareness Trainer
• Experience mentoring instructors to deliver SEND sessions

Duties include:

• Taking an active lead in the watersport activities within the Trevassack Lake operations, to include staff development
• Overseeing daily operations of the centre as the Duty Officer
• Deputising for the Principal in their absence
• Working as part of a team to provide an enjoyable and safe environment for students and members of all ages and abilities
• Delivery of courses within the NGB and AALA guidelines
• Assisting in ensuring all activities complies with CST procedures and policies
• Managing maintenance of the activities equipment
• Training Volunteers & Assistant Instructors
• Providing safety cover for Lake activities

Please note the contract of employment is subject to passing an Enhanced DBS child workforce check and satisfactory references.

Sailing Instructors (Helford Area)

Seasonal roles from March/April to October 2021

Rates of pay are SI £21K -£22K (FTE) and DI £19-£20K (FTE) dependant on experience and qualifications.

Working up to 5 days in 7 (to include weekends, evenings and bank holidays when required)

About the Roles

Senior Instructor and Dinghy Instructor

Working under the direction of the Activities Manager, Senior Instructors and Dinghy Instructors are responsible for the delivery of high quality water sports sessions to a wide variety of groups and individuals.

Senior Instructors oversee DIs and volunteers and may take day to day responsibility for management of sessions and equipment.

A full induction, familiarisation and training package will be offered.

Instructors are provided with personal equipment including drysuit, wetsuit boots, gloves, sunglasses and buoyancy aid.

Qualifications and experience

We are looking for experienced RYA qualified Senior Instructors and Dinghy Instructors who ideally will have worked in similar roles successfully delivering a Youth Sailing Scheme for at least a year. A First Aid qualification is essential and other water sport qualifications are desirable.

We are always looking to grow the CST Team, with midweek, weekend and holiday work available from ad-hoc to regular hours.

Competitive pay dependant on experience and qualifications.
