Most work from our headquarters in Hamble, near Southampton, but some are based in other parts of the UK.     Regional Development Officer (RYA Scotland, North)

    Salary: £25,000 - £27,000 per annum (dependent upon skills and experience)

    Permanent, Full-time (35 hours per week)

    Location: Inverness

    The Royal Yachting Association Scotland (RYA Scotland) team is recruiting! We are expanding the Regional Development Team and, with the support of sportscotland, are creating a new Regional Development Officer, who will cover the North of Scotland and Islands. This brand-new post will help us grow our reach and support for clubs and centres in the Highlands, Western Isles, Shetland Islands and Orkney Islands and enable them to thrive and become as sustainable as they can be. 

    This role will complement the Regional Development Officers (RDO) in both the East & West of Scotland. The RDO North will be responsible for creating a strong and vibrant North regional plan reflecting both the RYA Scotland Strategic Plan and the needs of the local and regional communities.

    Therefore, we are looking for an exceptional individual who is: 

    • Enthusiastic, has excellent interpersonal and communication skills and has a track record of working collaboratively within a team.
    • Has experience of working with a variety of partners using sport & physical activity to create impact and bring about positive changes for clubs, communities and people.
    • Creative and curious to explore new ideas to be more effective and have a bigger impact on individuals, clubs, centres and communities.
    • Passionate about developing partnerships, people and places.
    • Self-motivated and able to prioritise tasks. 

    This role will work directly with clubs, centres and other local partners, taking the time to understand their challenges and work with them to build creative solutions that address their needs. The role will connect both the boating and the local community, share information and support affiliated organisations in their plans to develop vibrant, engaging activity that makes a positive impact across Scotland. We seek to grow the opportunities for anyone to access boating and ensure sport is available for life. 

    This role involves considerable travel across the North of Scotland as well as travel throughout Scotland and occasional travel to wider UK locations. Consequently, a full clean UK driving licence and access to a car are essential as is the availability to work flexibly including regular evenings and weekends throughout the year. The successful candidate will also be required to undertake a PVG check upon offer of the role, as this position involves regular contact with children and/or adults at risk.

    Communicator (Sailability)

    Self-Employed, Contractor

    We have an exciting opportunity to provide communications services for the RYA’s Sailability Programme.

    The RYA is seeking to contract a communication professional to deliver the #MoreThanSailing campaign as part of the Sailability Programme and efforts to increase the number of disabled participants regularly involved in boating, prioritising inactive disabled people.

    The contractor will work with the Communications Team, the Sailability Team, national and local disability and community organisations, and the Sailability community.

    The focus of the campaign is to inform and inspire, engage, and sign participants up to boating opportunities. The campaign will have personal testimony at its heart, showcase the impact of boating and help people get on the water for the first time.

    Proven experience in digital, media and communications is required and an understanding of boating or a lived experience of disability or long term health conditions is desirable.

    The contract is for 30 hours per month at £32 per hour.

    Race Coach Tutor

    Self-Employed, Contractor 

    The Race Coach course sits within a broader coach education and development programme available to individuals who are invested in progressing their skills as a racing coach and to clubs and classes that wish to build training programmes for the benefit of their members. We want Race Coach Tutors to play a crucial role in skilfully guiding individuals, clubs and classes through the broader coach education and development programme and inspiring them to continue their developmental journey. For clarity, the broader coach education and development programme consists of:

    • Club or Class Visits
    • Discover Coaching or Instructing
    • Racing Coach Level 2 and 3
    • RYA Learning Network
    • Connect with Coaching

    Although the primary responsibility of this role is to effectively deliver the Race Coach programme, we want to emphasise that supporting the continual transition of individuals prior to and after the course is essential. Furthermore, we believe that effective communication between the team of tutors will scaffold a set of meaningful and connected experiences for coaches who are progressing through learning and development programmes.

    In summary, we see the revised Race Coach Tutor role as essential to embedding the broader coach education and development programme for the benefit of individual coaches, clubs and classes.

    Role Description for RYA Race Coach Tutor.

    Delivering RYA Race Coach courses, including online priming tutorials and reviewing workshops (Approximately two courses per year), daily fee £170.00 + expenses.

    Additional tasks where requested by the RYA Coaching Development Manager include:

    • Facilitating club and class visits.
    • Producing content for the RYA Learning Network.
    • Engaging with coaches through the RYA Learning Network.
    • Delivering Discover Coaching and Instructing Sessions.
    • Hosting Connect with Coaching workshops.
