    Most effective way however was getting children desperate to read. Pester power is the way to go. No competitions though, that creates idea that reading is only worth doing if we reward it. Where really it should have it’s own intrinsic value.

    Set up bedtime library(great children’s books to share at bedtime), parents reading training sessions to support children, created new library space and put great books in it,regular book newsletter, book fairs,got children to town library, oh did I say great books

    A3: I also have a shared reading display with vocab from our books that we learn. Chn always get out of their seats to try and include in the writing in all subjects! Every lesson I put on some calming instrumental music to help keep the atmosphere!

    A4 Mr Potato Head Comp has been popular more than once. Dress a potato up as a book character. Creative, fun, cheap and a jolly display. ☺️

    The kids made settings from their class book in shoe boxes using the description, and inferences, from the story. They looked amazing and the kids loved it! Got some great discussion of the text from them too.

    A3: Making sure you celebrate children's work and efforts. For me, I like having a balanced approached with what goes up... making sure the environment is in the Goldilocks zone... not too much it overstimulates, but not barren and cold either.

    I bang their work up as much as possible so they know it’s going to be acknowledged, appreciated and admired by those who come in and then they work harder on the next bit. My working walls are not pretty but they do the job. Here’s maths from our fractions unit 😂

    I’ll catch you up. Some teachers in the edutwittersphere have got some banging ideas for engaging parents with reading and putting on events for them. My maths working wall is messy but nice. has to back all work going on the walls.
