ഓൺലൈൻ കമ്പ്യൂട്ടർ ലൈബ്രറി സെന്ററിൽ (ഒ.സി.എൽ.സി.) അംഗത്വമെടുത്തിട്ടുള്ള 72,000 ലൈബ്രറികളുടെ (170 രാജ്യങ്ങളിൽ നിന്നുള്ള) ഏകീകൃത ഗ്രന്ഥസൂചിക (യൂണിയൻ കാറ്റലോഗ്) യാണ് വേൾഡ്കാറ്റ് (WorldCat) (വിശ്വഗ്രന്ഥസൂചി).[1] വേൾഡ്കാറ്റ് രൂപീകരിച്ചതും നിയന്ത്രിക്കുന്നതും ഒ.സി.എൽ.സി. ആണ്. ഇതാണ് ലോകത്തിലെ ഏറ്റവും വലിയ ഗ്രന്ഥസൂചി ഡാറ്റാബേസ്. ഒ.സി.എൽ.സി. യുടെ പ്രധാന സേവനമാണ് വേൾഡ്കാറ്റ് (വിശ്വഗ്രന്ഥസൂചി).
ചരിത്രം[തിരുത്തുക]
1967 ലാണ് ഓൺലൈൻ കമ്പ്യൂട്ടർ ലൈബ്രറി സെന്ററർ (ഒ.സി.എൽ.സി.) രൂപീകൃതമായത്.[2] അതേ വർഷം തന്നെ അമേരിക്കൻ ലൈബ്രേറിയനായ ഫ്രഡ് കിൽഗർ വേൾഡ്കാറ്റ് രൂപീകരിച്ചു.[3] എങ്കിലും 1971 ൽ ആണ് ആദ്യമായി വേൾഡ്കാറ്റിൽ ഗ്രന്ഥസൂചികകൾ രേഖപ്പെടുത്തി തുടങ്ങിയത്.[4] വേൾഡ്കാറ്റിൽ 2014 നവംബറിലെ കണക്കുകളനുസരിച്ച് 330 മില്യണോളം ഗ്രന്ഥസൂചികകൾ രേഖപ്പെടുത്തിയിട്ടുണ്ട്. [5] ഇതാണ് ലോകത്തിലെ ഏറ്റവും വലിയ ഗ്രന്ഥസൂചി ഡാറ്റാബേസ്.
