ACM Statement

In the United States, and throughout many regions around the world, current events have brought attention to the urgent need for equality and respect for all individuals. ACM reaffirms its commitment to fostering diversity and inclusion within the global computer science community.  

As an international organization of nearly 100,000 professionals, ACM respects the essential worth of all people and firmly believes that diversity strengthens the scientific enterprise and society as a whole. ACM’s Code of Professional Ethics embodies these principles, and our Diversity and Inclusion Council works to translate them into effective action. 

ACM is committed to creating an environment that welcomes new ideas and perspectives, and where hostility or other harmful behaviors are not tolerated. As an organization, we stand with those who promote inclusivity.

 

SIGCOMM is ACM's professional forum for discussing communications and computer networks.

SIGCOMM members include scientists, engineers, educators and students. They study all aspects of computer communications and networks: analysis, technical design, engineering, measurement and management. Our members are particularly interested in the systems engineering and architectural questions surrounding computer communication.

    ACM SIGCOMM 2021, Call for Workshops

    SIGCOMM 2021 plans to hold multiple one-day/half-day virtual (online) workshops in conjunction with the conference, to be held between August 24 and August 26, 2021. Workshops will take place on Monday, August 23 and Friday, August 27.We invite you to submit workshop proposals on any topic related to the broad set of research and application areas covered by the SIGCOMM conference, including topics in network research, practice, and education. Topics that represent new research areas and directions are particularly welcome. The deadline for receiving proposals is February 5, 2021.

    The ACM SIGCOMM 2021 conference seeks papers describing significant research contributions to the field of communication networks and networked systems. SIGCOMM takes a broad view of networking research, which includes all types of computer networks, wired and wireless networking technologies, networked systems, as well as aspects of computer network design, analysis, experimentation, and more.  SIGCOMM 2021 will also accept submissions to an experience track in addition to the regular research track, describing the design, analysis, and evaluation of techniques in commercial or otherwise widely-used deployments. In addition to the main conference, SIGCOMM 2021 will have a series of co-located workshops, tutorials, poster and demo sessions, and conference best paper and SIGCOMM awards.

    ACM History Committee — Call for Proposals 2021
     
    The ACM History Committee runs this program, which has resulted over 35 fellowships awarded since the start of this fellowship program in 2009.   Many of these awards have gone to scholars (graduate students to senior scholars) in the SIGs to support preservation of a SIG’s history.
     
    The submission deadline for proposals is February 15, 2021.

    Deadline for the April 2021 issue of ACM SIGCOMM CCR: December 1
      
    The ACM SIGCOMM Computer Communication Review (CCR) newsletter is published every quarter. The deadline for the submission of technical papers, education papers and editorials for the April 2021 issue of CCR is December 1, 2020.

    ACM CoNEXT 2021 -- Call for Organizing Committee
     
    ACM CoNEXT is soliciting proposals from organization committees to host a virtual CoNEXT 2021 conference. As the SIG has opted for all 2021 conferences to be virtual, "site" proposals are simpler as they need not include information typically involved with holding physical events, i.e., venue, hotels, banquet, etc. Below you find the required details. Organization Committee proposals should be less than a single page, in pdf format. Check the details in the online call. Deadline January 15 2021.

    Call for Participation: HotNets 2020 (November 4-6, 2020) 

    In light of continued effects from the COVID-19 pandemic, HotNets 2020 (November 4-6, 2020) will be a fully virtual event.  We will take this opportunity to deploy and try out several new features designed to encourage interaction and discussion at HotNets.  
     
    - In contrast to the invite-only format in previous years, we opened up registration for HotNets 2020 to all members of the community. 
    - We will provide two types of access to the workshop: live interactive zoom sessions for registered attendees, and concurrent streaming YouTube broadcasts for other viewers. 
    - In addition to Zoom/YouTube, we will host parallel discussions and Q&A on Slack, which is also open to the general public.

    Finally, Hotnets 2020 will be a 3-day event (3.5 hours per day) 

    November 4th, 2020 (Wed):   Start: 8:45AM (US Central Time), End: 12:30PM (US Central Time) 
    November 5th, 2020 (Thur):   Start: 9:00AM (US Central Time), End:  12:30PM (US Central Time)
    November 6th, 2020 (Fri):       Start: 9:00AM (US Central Time), End:  12:30PM (US Central Time)

    We hope that this combination of tools and platforms will facilitate more lively discussions on new ideas and future research topics. 

    Registered attendees will receive zoom session information via email, while information on YouTube broadcasts and Slack will be posted soon to the HotNets’20 website (https://conferences.sigcomm.org/hotnets/2020/program.html).  The full program is already posted on this site. Please stay tuned.

    Call for nominations: Applied Networking Research Prize (ANRP) 2021

    Submit nominations for the ANRP 2021 until 22 November 2020

    The Applied Networking Research Prize is awarded to recognise the best recent results in applied networking, interesting new research ideas of potential relevance to the Internet standards community, and upcoming people that are likely to have an impact on Internet standards and technologies, with a particular focus on cases where these people or ideas would not otherwise get much exposure or be able to participate in the discussion.

    We encourage nominations of researchers with relevant research results, interesting ideas, and new perspectives. The award provides a cash prize, and will offer the winner the opportunity to present and discuss their work with the engineers, network  operators, policy makers, and scientists that participate in the Internet  Engineering Task Force (IETF) and its research arm, the Internet Research Task Force (IRTF). Both self- and third-party nominations for this prize are encouraged.

    The award is in recognition of outstanding research contributions in the areas of computer-generated robust networking algorithms such as congestion control. His innovative and out-of-the-box approaches, supporting the networking community through open datasets and open source software, have impacted academia, industry and society. The rising star award committee comprised Sharad Agarwal (MSR, chair), Morley Mao (University of Michigan), Matt Roughan (University of Adelaide), and Hakim Weatherspoon (Cornell University).
