FAQs
How do I find out more?
If you need to find out more information about a local 'Discover Sailing' event then please contact with the venue directly. They will be able to provide more
details and answer any further questions you may have.
What should I wear?
We recommend wearing comfortable clothes and footwear that you don’t mind getting
wet (just in case!). If the weather isn’t
very warm a windproof coat would be beneficial.
What happens on the water?
Don’t worry if you’ve not been sailing before! You’ll be taken out on the water with
a qualified instructor or an experienced sailor. A buoyancy aid or lifejacket will be provided
by the venue.
How old do I need to be?
Some venues may have a minimum
age, but many don’t. To find out more look at the ‘More
Information’ tab on each of the
event details or contact the venue directly.
What if I’m disabled?
Sailing
is a fantastic activity for people of all abilities. Look out for Sailability 'Discover Sailing' Venues or get directly in touch with the club or centre to ask accessibility.
Visit RYA Sailability for more information about
sailing disabled people.
What else should I bring?
You
could bring a towel and maybe some spare clothes (particularly if you are
bringing children).
There will be changing
facilities on site. Sun hat and sun scream are also important.
You may be able to purchase
refreshments on site (tea, coffee, BBQ, cakes etc) so a small amount of cash may
be handy
I’ve been sailing and want to
do more!
Don’t be afraid to get back in touch with the venue and ask them what’s
next! Alternatively more information can be found here.
