About the Author

Tricia E. Wright is an Associate Professor of Obstetrics, Gynecology and Women's Health at the University of Hawaii, and founder of Waikiki Health PATH Clinic, providing addiction care for women. She is also past President of the Women's Action Group of the American Society of Addiction Medicine and the Chair of the Opioids Task Force, for the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology. She has authored multiple research papers on women with substance use disorders.

This is a must have book for anyone working with pregnant women whether from a medical or social perspective. While many women will report alcohol or marijuana use, opioid use remains hidden and rarely self disclosed. This book is looks at all facets of addiction and is organized in such a way that one can swiftly access answers or explore the disease of addiction more thoroughly. I was pleased that chapters were included on co-existing medical and mental health conditions, as well as societal issues such as partner violence and PTSD. Finally the information regarding medical management in labor, delivery as well as postpartum was clearly well researched and timely.
