Noise cancelling works!!

This is the 3rd headset I've tried, the other 2 were different brands. The problem I've been trying to solve is that when I have online meetings, others always complained that they heard a lot of background noise..specifically my central air conditioner which they compared to being in a wind tunnel.

Now with this unit, all the problems with noise are gone! They can hear me clearly and no more background wind tunnel noise. Another complaint I had about one of the other headsets I had was the bulk. It is extremely heavy and not comfortable to wear for more than a few minutes. This unit, however, is the opposite and is extremely light. I kind of wish it had ear pieces on both sides so I can hear more clearly..but I only wear it for meetings so not a huge deal and I can get by. The price is also reasonable, so I'm giving this a great rating and would recommend it if you're also having issues with background noise.

I almost hate writing a headset review. There are so many options, and taste/preference is highly individualized.

That said, there are some objective and subjective items to cover.

OBJECTIVE EXPERIENCE:

I have fine, smooth hair so this headset kept slipping down.

The width of the arm going across the top of the head felt too wide (and I wear an extra large hat).

The boom holding the mic protruded oddly away from my face, which I could imagine might be helpful for people with more hair or a wider set face.

The sound in the ear piece was just fine. Very clear.

The controls (e.g., mute, volume up, volume down) were intuitive and simple to use.

SUBJECTIVE EXPERIENCE:

The dealbreaker for me was the mic quality. This is a widespread problem with headsets so it’s likely not noticed by most (or doesn’t matter). As a former musician who appreciates a good mic, even when speaking, this mic delivered very thin sound to the listener. I have a super cheap headset that delivers a richer sound to the person on the other end.

I’ve realized that I probably need to invest some bones to get a fuller, richer sound from a microphone.

I teach for an online ESL company and also have 4 kids, who are LOUD. I bought this headset over a year ago after the set I was using hurt my head after 3 or 4 classes (1 ½ to 2 hours), even with taking them off my head between classes. I did a TON of research and ordered literally 6 or 7 pairs of headphones to try and sent them all back. Then I found a recommendation for this headset. I have taught up to 9 classes (4 ½ hours) wearing these with no pain and the mic is really noise canceling. I wasn't sure how well it worked until a week ago when one of my students said she couldn't hear me. I noticed I had put the mic up so it was over my head. Just a few inches from my mouth and she couldn't hear me! I was curious how well it canceled sound so I just tested them (I know I've had them for a year and am just now testing it). I took a video of myself with the mic in front of my face and then swung it up and the difference was amazing! I spoke loudly when it was above my head and could BARELY hear anything. Plus my kids were playing one room over LOUDLY with the Alexa and I couldn't hear them at all! The one ear design took a little getting used to but now I love it! It keeps me from screaming because I can hear myself. I did get these for about $20 cheaper last year when everyone in the world wasn't looking for webcams and headsets. I just wrote a recommendation for my fellow teachers on some of our Facebook pages, that’s how much I recommend these!

This is the most comfortable headset I've worn in the entire sixteen years I've worked from home. I can eat and drink with it on in between incoming calls without being aware of it. At shift end first day wearing it I forgot I still had it on. Can you imagine that? Forgot! I was like wha-- I had originally planned to stash it away in my (also Amazon purchase) Songmics Faux Leather Folding Storage Ottoman Cube within easy reach of my work space as secondary to one I received first, a few weeks ago, client ACD Direct now mandating USB computer headsets, exclusively, in lieu of telephone headsets, but on first day's use of this Sennheiser SC 30 USB headset, I changed my mind in favor of the 'second born' of the two, in spite of both being of exceptionally high quality in communication.

Update: Downgraded from 5 to 4 stars since my initial post. Working from home in an apartment building I suspect to have TATs (abbreviation for term I made up for Traffickers Against Taxation) I pack the headset away into a padlockable storage cube before going outdoors in order to guard against defective trade by seeming minions of corrupt (post-1970, mad pleurisy/zombie researching) lady doctors who seemingly don't want anyone (e.g., WAHA, i.e., Work At Home Agent) witnessing duffle bags or the non-degradable like securable bags. being placed in garbage cans/dumpsters during daylight hours and/or seeming stalking, body clean-freak, homeless entering designated apartments for showers/naps/meals . The over stuffing seems to have eventually caused the otherwise perfect mouthpiece to swing loosely instead of staying in place. I know -- no fair reviewing for other than normal wear and tear, but just saying to warn others against like product abuse. If you love this one, then handle with TLC., as it doesn't seem to hold up to abuse. Now I, personally, have to buy another one.

Update 2: Oops, badmouthed wrong headset. That was my Agptek HA0071 telephone headset I use for my LiveOps client that didn't hold up to abuse, not the wonderful, wonderful Sennheiser SC 30 USB headset. Making full use of my Amazon video prime membership in between WAHA calls, I've never, ever padlocked the Sennheiser SC 30 USB headset. That is, the Sennheiser SC 30 USB headset is still excellent after all this this time.

Decent but not best for the price

The Logitech USB Headset H390 beats this hands down. I've been using the Logi for a year or so and thought about "upgrading" to this Sennheiser - also because these are in stock (for my team) and the Logi is sold out due to COVID. After doing a few recordings with each, I can say without a doubt this is not as good as the cheaper Logitech. The audio is clean but much quieter and toned down versus the clear and deep sound that Logitech captures.

I purchased the Sennheiser SC30 headset last November and it worked well for about 6 months before the USB connector became very loose and wouldn't keep the headset connected. I guess these things happen and with a 2 year warranty I didn't expect any problems getting a replacement. Unfortunately the Sennheiser aftermarket support is almost non existent, I've sent multiple emails to try and get this resolved but to date have only received a generic message that my email was received and no further response to my follow up emails. I originally bought these as I had always recognized Sennheiser as a quality company but obviously that's not the case any more. Apparently you can offer any length of warranty to make the ad sound good but what's the point if the company doesn't honor it? Time to move on to a different supplier.
