This explains how the President’s Malaria Initiative (PMI) pmi.gov website will handle information we learn about you from your visit to our website. The information we receive depends upon what you do when visiting our site.

If you visit our site to only view or download presented information, we only collect and store the following information about you: the name of the domain from which you access the Internet; your operating system and browser type/version; the date and time you access our site; the Internet address of the website from which you linked directly to our site; and the information you view while you visit our website.

We do not collect or track any personal information through these processes. We use the information we collect to measure the number of visitors to the different sections of our site, find out what information is most viewed, and help us make our website more useful to visitors.

Information You Provide to the PMI Website

You do not have to provide any personal information to view this website. You may choose to provide your personal information to the PMI website in order to subscribe for the e-newsletter.

Cookies and other information stored on your computer

This site does NOT use the "cookies" that some websites use to gather and store information about your visits to their sites.

Cookies are essentially tokens of information, such as preferences and passwords, which some web servers collect from you when you access them. That data is stored on your hard drive-not on the website's server. Whenever you visit a "cookie" site, the server looks for its cookie on your hard drive and, if found, then reads the information it stored there.

However, this site DOES use "session cookies," which allows quicker transfer of information from the pmi.gov website server to the user. A session cookie, or "memory cookie," is a temporary block of information stored in the memory of your computer. Regular cookies are files stored on your computer, while session cookies are deleted when you close your browser.

Cookies – Tier 1 (single session) and Tier 2 (multisession without PII) – are used on PMI.gov in compliance with OMB Memorandum 10-22, Guidance for Online Use of Web Measurement and Customization Technologies (PDF). PMI.gov does not use Tier 3 (multisession with PII) cookies.

Usage of a cookie is in no way linked to any personally identifiable information. You can remove or block cookies by changing the settings of your browser. For opt-out instructions relating to cookies, please visit http://www.usa.gov/optout_instructions.shtml.

Further, some of the links on the pmi.gov website point to non-USAID sites which may place cookies on your computer. If you want to avoid such cookies, we encourage you to set your browser to notify you when cookies are being set and allow you to reject them. Your system's help files will explain how to do this.
