Has the poisoned-water crisis in Flint, Michigan been resolved? by shortandfighting in OutOfTheLoop

[–]randopoit 50 points51 points  (0 children)

Are you proposing that the federal government undertake the expense necessary to relocate a city of 100,000 people? Or are you saying that the proper response to a government poisoning the water supply be to tell everyone, "Just walk away from everything"?

To say that everyone stopped caring ignores the fact that the federal government almost shut down last month because Democrats demanded funding to address Flint's water crisis and Republicans refused to allocate money for it.

This cat is a Batman villain. This is exactly what the poor shop owner sees when KitCat comes in to discuss protection insurance. "It would be a real shame if someone were to break something in your beautiful shop."

ACS AMA: We are Mat Todd and Alice E. Williamson, respectively founder and principal synthetic organic chemist for the Open Source Malaria (OSM) Consortium. Ask us anything about open source drug discovery, OSM’s recent paper and malaria medicines! by AmerChemSocietyAMA in science

OSM sounds really interesting! My sense is that there is a lot of philanthropic money that is directed at malaria. Is that what allows this research to use an open model?

What barriers would be faced by a graduate student that ideologically aligns with open source principles and is interested in working on diseases that affect small populations? Diseases that affect large, but poor populations? Diseases that affect a large swath of society?

This morning I had my woman's wellness exam, and as I was leaving the clinic a pro-life protester called me a whore. Ironically that facility doesn't provide abortions. I didn't realize getting cancer screenings made me a whore? by Chagrinne in TwoXChromosomes

[–]randopoit 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Imagine what the world would be like if this were more common. What if men were called whores when walking out of the office for a prostate exam. Women called whores after annual checkups. Football players called whores when they get out of orthopedic surgery. Grandmothers called whores after cancer biopsies. Nurses called whores after dental appointments. Teachers called whores after diabetes screenings.

That world... That world would last 5 minutes, and then we'd fix it.

Not everyone that dislikes your writing is a woman. Presumptive much?

I'd say more, but you've already ignored what I think is most important for you: more listening to others. Thanks for letting us know that "not all white men date black women because of fetishes, power or other ulterior motives"; some do it because they feel, like you, "WOC treat me better than white women."

Walt, what I would like is for you to do a lot less writing and a lot more reading.

If you intend to be the loving partner that a woman of color deserves, you'll have to spend much less time congratulating yourself on a self-perceived color blindness, and much more time critically examining how our society harms people of color for the advantage of others.

/u/_redpaint, I agree with Princess Batman that you should probably break up. There's been research on this! Looking at people who are struggling with the same question as you, more are happier when they decide to breakup.

When you realize your "friend" is a horrible person by [deleted] in bisexual

[–]randopoit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One thing to always remember, it's hard to win a debate on how somebody thinks. It's much easier to establish your boundaries. Like, "You can't hang out with me and use language like that." If he does, pay your tab, tell him he can try again to be civil another night.

Coaxes him to be a better person, leaves you hope for a good drinking partner. And if you make it clear that you refuse to hear him disrespect others, he won't make it all the way down the road to "jokingly" disrespecting you.

You can probably do this faster (and you will certainly have a more readable result) by using Google GeoCharts. https://developers.google.com/chart/interactive/docs/gallery/geochart
