Ted Morton directs Pew’s U.S. oceans work at the federal level, including efforts to protect coastal habitats, maintain policies to end overfishing and rebuild depleted fish populations, and promote ecosystem-based fisheries management in U.S. federal waters.
Before joining Pew, Morton directed an Environmental Defense Fund campaign to reform the international trade of coral reef wildlife and served as vice president of organizational effectiveness and operations at SeaWeb, as well as director of operations at the Pew Institute for Ocean Science. He was also federal policy director for Oceana, where he was involved in successful efforts to persuade Congress to reauthorize the Magnuson-Stevens Fishery Conservation and Management Act in 2006, and served as policy director for the American Oceans Campaign.
Morton holds a bachelor’s degree in political science from Furman University and a Juris Doctor from the University of Georgia School of Law.
