Early in its history, the Open Philanthropy Project shared a number of updates on its thinking about scientific research and the role philanthropy can play in it. These updates were authored by Open Philanthropy leadership and represented our views at the time.
In the years since, as our team has grown and we have hired program officers to lead our giving in scientific research, our thinking has evolved, and some of the early posts have been superseded by newer ideas. We have captured these early posts below so that readers can understand the origins of our giving in this space; visitors who want to learn about our current approach should visit our scientific research page and explore our various thematic areas.
