  1. Government progress on compensation has been shamefully slow, whilst Ministers still haven’t set out the timeline for delivering the recommendations in the Wendy Williams Review. If they really are sorry then they should get on and make amends:

Nelson Mandela was born 102 years ago today - he fought for social justice, against racism and led a movement which ended Apartheid. He continues to inspire us today and reminds us that we must come together to defeat racism and inequality in our society and across the world.

This an extremely concerning incident. It is right that it is quickly referred to the IOPC and an officer has been suspended. I will be following this closely: we are policed by consent and that relies on the highest levels of respect and professionalism.

This is shameful. The country deserves better than this arrogant response from Michael Gove to serious questions about a delayed inquiry into bullying allegations against the Home Sec. They think it’s one rule for them & another for everyone else. The report must be published now

136 days since Gove promised inquiry on bullying allegations against Home Sec.Since then: Nightingale Hospitals built/closed;Captain Tom raised £30m+;Football/cricket stopped & restarted. But report not published-it’s shameful & damages our national interest. What are they hiding?

This is totally unacceptable. The Tories are playing politics with an issue of trust at the heart of Government. Yet again it’s one rule for them and another for everyone else. They must publish the report now. I wrote to Michale Gove-for the 3rd time-calling for it this weekend:

Very pleased to see that the good sense of the Intelligence and Security Committee members has prevailed and that they overruled the Prime Minister by appointing Julian Lewis as Chair, rather than the hapless Chris Grayling.

Wendy Williams was only a “fraction away from calling the Home Office institutionally racist” - these are the Home Secretary’s own words at today referring to the report into the . Absolute shameful after ten years of a Tory Government.

Throughout this crisis there‘s been a lack of grip and clarity from the Home Secretary on the numbers of people entering the country with Covid-19. Government Ministers were too slow to address this at the start and continue to be unable to answer vital questions today:

“The Prime Minister should focus on the jobs not the rhetoric” - absolutely right to raise the worrying job losses in the aviation sector & the cynical British Airways attempt to rehire workers on worse terms & conditions. The PM should intervene, not dismiss this.

In this crisis we cannot let attention slip from the threat of violet extremism. We know those who seek to divide us are trying to use this time as an opportunity to recruit vulnerable people-good piece from on work to address this:

“To exclude care workers from the health visa is a clear signal that this government does not appreciate the skill and dedication these roles involve.” -

Yet again the Tories snubbed our care workers today, by suggesting they are low-skilled and blocking them from the Health and Care Visa. So I’ve invited the Home Secretary to meet with care workers along with me, to hear what a wonderful, skilled job they do:

The Home Secretary & the Conservatives have no idea how skilful and valuable our care workers are, as their exclusion from the Health and Care Visa makes clear. I’ve written to the Home Secretary, offering to convene a meeting with care workers:

What does this Government have against care workers? The latest papers on the proposed immigration system confirm that the Tories do not consider carers as skilled workers. Have they learned nothing from this crisis? We will be seeking urgent clarification on this.

    - ’s retirement will be a great loss to , & the wider Labour Movement. His commitment to standing up for workers who do many of the most vital jobs in our society is admirable-I know he’ll continue to be a huge force for good in our movement.

Someone should remind ‘sources close to the Home Secretary’ which party has been in power for 10 yrs: a time when HSE, Trading Standards, local Councils and police have faced huge cuts & the Tories have relentlessly attacked our trade unions. Address these issues to prevent abuse
