    GWCT peer-reviewed research published in 2019 shows that mountain hares are most widespread in north-eastern Scotland on managed grouse moors, where their numbers can be up to 35 times higher than areas where grouse are not shot. Read more here:

    4️⃣ Grouse moors benefit mountain hares. This year, a study by showed that mountain hare numbers are 35 times higher on moorland managed for grouse shooting.

    2️⃣ There is no national mountain hare count in the UK and no clear evidence of a population decline. 3️⃣ has found that mountain hares are present in good numbers on sites that the report (referred to by ) states as having zero mountain hares.
