The government chose not to offer comment to the Mirror's story. Instead they briefed an anonymous quote to the BBC who ran with it breathlessly - trying to invalidate the mirror in the process. Pathetic

I have deleted that last tweet, as the wording was faulty The general point I sought to make was that coronavirus is not some technical and academic concern for any family at the moment

I’m rather enjoying the fact that his - unwarranted - participation in SAGE makes this breach that much more difficult to defend.

Last year Cummings helped to frame the dangerous ‘elite versus the people’ message. Now while the ‘people’ cant travel to visit parents he felt he could ..and did. In doing so Cummings shows he’s part of a non elected elite that treats ‘the people’ with contempt.

‘Source close’ to Dominic Cummings turns out to actually be 264 miles away.

Solidarity between reporters is most important when Downing Street responds to investigative reporting by seeking to undermine the press (as it now does routinely). I do hope other journalists think hard before pedalling unsourced denials and claims of “fake news”.

The Dominic Cummings scoop was the result of a partnership between the Guardian and the Mirror. Proof that collaboration between rival journalists can be as beneficial as competition. A healthy media ecosystem has a bit of both.

For Cummings to stay after Ferguson and Calderwood were forced to resign for less, demonstrates that the normal rules of politics have ceased to apply to the extent where it is now anything goes Yes, reply guys can say that was already the case: but this would clinch it

Is the bigger scandal over the Cummings thing that Downing Street has known for almost a month that a senior adviser had broken their lockdown policy and did nothing about it? Surely shouldn't take a media storm to make them take that seriously?

Mr Cummings is said to have made his 250+ mile journey in late March. On 3rd April, Matt Hancock told the country: ""I end with the advice we all know. This advice is not a request - it is an instruction. Stay at home, protect lives and then you will be doing your part."

If Ferguson and Calderwood had to resign, then so should Cummings If Cummings stays, then Ferguson and Calderwood should be reinstated It is this simple

Those in government who briefed against Ferguson so that he resigned will presumably now brief against Cummings for his resignation?

Thought this might happen⬇️ - PM agreeing to appear before Liaison C'tee as soon as it was re-constituted (with government-picked chair). Johnson's 1st appearance before C'tee will be 10 mos 3 days after he became PM, nearly 4 mos longer than any other PM since the sessions began

This is the 1st time Johnson willl appear in front of the liaison committee since becoming PM last July (10 months later) Usually the PM is questioned by the committee three times a year... There have been recesses & GE & his illness during that time - but its still a huge gap

I have never had one of my quotes set out on a banner like this before - astonishing how even the most banal comments come across as striking when presented like this Next one should just be "Well."

The Government would win so much respect if they admitted, just sometimes, that they had made a mistake and were correcting it. That would be a sign of strength not weakness.
