Concrete Driveways
Concrete driveways are a great investment if you’re looking to improve your driveway and get the most from the space outside of your home. Concrete driveways are tapered off around your garage and front lawn, creating a space that you can park your car, welcome guests, or even have the kids play on. When you have a surface that you can trust, you can sit back and enjoy your driveway more for its stability and strength.
Concrete Sidewalks
Concrete sidewalks are a durable solution to other building materials, especially when you anticipate the number of people that will be walking and utilizing the sidewalks. To optimize safety and comfort, concrete is a secure material that can be installed in slabs and formed together to create a smooth and even sidewalk that both you and any guests can enjoy with ease. We recommend considering concrete for your sidewalks to help separate them from the lawn and main road.
Concrete Patios
Concrete has long been a top choice building material for patios because of its durability when exposed to the outdoor elements. Much like sidewalks, patios are openly exposed to fluctuating temperatures, including heat, cold, UV rays, and even moisture. When this happens, most other building materials would easily succumb to the damages caused by outdoor elements. Instead, concrete is able to withstand the outdoor elements and can provide a great outdoor space for you to place furniture to enjoy the weather, or a barbeque to cook out in the sun.

Concrete Garage Slabs
Concrete Shop Floors
Concrete Foundations
Concrete Garage Slabs
Concrete garage slabs are those which are poured into individual casings and later installed into a frame in your garage. Instead of pouring concrete into one large frame and having to wait longer for it to dry, concrete garage slabs can be created sooner, dried beforehand, and quickly installed into your garage, making it ready for use at an earlier time. Concrete garage slabs are also great for those that want repairs made easy that are also less time consuming.
Concrete Shop Floors
Using concrete for your shop floors is a dependable way to ensure safety and lasting comfort for your shop’s interiors. Concrete has many abilities when used inside retail shops, warehouses, showrooms, and more. When finished off with a heavy-duty sealant, your concrete shop floors can easily combat any type of damage that could occur from frequent or high numbers of guests, and are easy to clean for others who help operate your shop.
Concrete Foundations
Concrete foundations are those which are structural and built from concrete instead of other materials such as wood. Concrete has proven to be a much stronger building material and, when integrated with adequate footings and measurements for the building, can provide substantial support and strength to a new or existing building structure.

13 Tips For Pouring A Concrete Slab
Here are some tips to pouring your slab right the first time.
These are the basic guidelines to pouring a cement slab, but obviously there are a lot of variables to consider. Season and concrete quality are the major differentiators, and can cause the most grief. Cement jobs can be intimidating, as you only get one chance to get it right. If this seems like too daunting of a job for you, let the experts at Concrete Pros Saskatoon handle it for you. - Measure the area you want your new slab to be, and map out how you want water to drain and the slope you need. When laying your crushed rock, this should imitate how you want the top of your finished concrete to look.
- Calculating how much concrete you need is important too. Once you have the proper measurements, you can use one of the many calculators online to figure this number out. Always add 10% to whatever number you come up with, to account for spillage or mismeasurements. For this step, you might want to speak to a concrete contractor to determine the strength and slump of the cement to pour.
- If you're pouring your new slab next to an existing one, you'll want to protect the edge of the adjoining concrete with duct tape or tuck tape, whichever is more handy. You'll also want to hang plastic, usually 6mm poly, to cover your siding and windows if you're pouring concrete next to your house to stop the splashing from making a mess.
- Just before your start pouring the cement, wet the base to ensure the dirt doesn't suck all the moisture out of the freshly poured concrete, resulting in a longer and stronger curing process.
- Allow yourself an extra 1-2 hours before the cement truck comes to properly prepare yourself. Concrete starts to set immediately, and there isn't a lot of time to spare to run around looking for tools. Use this time to set out all you'll need for the entire pour process, and to double check your forms and base for proper levels.
- During the pour, it's recommended to do small sections at a time. Depending on the size of job, you should have at least 2 people placing and screeding the cement, while 1 person floats shortly after to fill in any low spots.
- While running the float, make sure to try and come from as many angles as possible. This technique allows for low spots to be easily identified, and during this process you can push any larger pieces of aggregate back down into the concrete which will reduce chipping in the future.
- One often overlooked step is the cleaning process. As soon as a tool is finished being used, be sure to wash it off. Leaving this step until last can add hours to your day if you're looking to get your tools spotless.
- Once the trowelling starts, be careful not to overdo it. If you're using a power trowel, start out by using a shallow blade angle. A steep blade angle will put too much pressure on the concrete and the surface can become slick. Another thing to watch out for is the blade speed. When first starting the trowelling process, start with a slow blade speed, as fast spinning blades can actually 'burn' the cement. If both of these are done incorrectly, it could lead to moisture being locked in, causing a longer cure time and potentially a flaky finish.
- If you're looking for a rough finish instead of a polish, the industry standard is using a strong bristled broom to go over the top of the cement just before its completely set. Depending on the location of the slab, a polished finish can be slippery in certain conditions.
- As the concrete pad is setting, it shrinks. To allow for the contraction, we put in control joints. These cut lines are usually not spaced wider than 8ft x 8ft, and will ultimately control where any cracking happens.
- To slow the cure time down, which results in a stronger finish, it may be necessary to lightly spray the fresh pad with water for up to a week. This is especially true if the weather is very warm and it's windy. It's recommended to speak to a concrete expert to get this curing process right.
- When everything is wrapped up, be sure to put up barricades, warning that there is a freshly poured cement pad. It shouldn't be walked on for 24 hours, and vehicles should stay off of it for at least 10 days. An additional note is to not using any kind of ice melter for the following two years after pouring the slab.
