Cordless or corded?
The first question we need to answer is corded or cordless? There are many differences between the two but as this is a cordless drills page, we will assume that this is your main interest.
Power is one of the main reasons for considering a drill in the first place, but cordless drills can pack a punch just as good as some of the corded models. This is also a great safety and convenience feature as there’s no cable that needs to be plugged in and no trip hazard. Drill in those hard to reach places isn’t an issue with a cordless drill and there’s no need for an annoying extension cord.
While a cordless drill can offer more freedom, a corded drill can be lighter. This is because it doesn’t need a battery pack to keep on running. This steady source of power without the need to stop and recharge is another benefit of the corded drill. A lighter drill means less hand and arm fatigue and more power means more drilling! Finally, corded drills tend to be more powerful as well as cheaper.
Corded drills do have their benefits though and weight can be one of them. A corded drill doesn’t require you to lug around a battery pack (and a spare as it may be) as it’s getting power straight from the source. This is of course a personal preference and weight may not be an issue for some of you DIY lovers and professionals out there.
