Who we are
We are a tightly-knit team working to catalyse social transformation.
In the year 1990, Bharat Ratna recipient, late C. Subramaniam, late Dr. Kamla Choudhary, and Dr. M. S. Swaminathan along with personalities from the worlds of art, media, business, academia and the government came together to seed National Foundation for India (NFI).
What We Do
We make grants and raise funds in our mission to promote social justice.
Strengthening civil society
on governance and inclusion
Since our inception, we have collaborated with individuals and organisations on areas like education, health, livelihood, citizens and society, peace and justice, and urban governance. Our collaborations on various initiatives have responded to the local needs and priorities of individuals and organisations.Shaping
philanthropy
We engage with corporates, donors, foundations, and individuals, and encourage them to give grants and make long-term investments in grassroot organisations. We communicate the importance of a CSO's work on social justice, build their capacity in financial governance, and facilitate dialogues between CSOs and donors.
HOW WE DO IT
We work with marginalised communities in the least accessible places.
Promoting
leadership
Through awards and opportunities, we promote leadership among youth, women, dalits, tribals, transgender communities, differently-abled individuals, victims of abuse, and other minorities.
Enabling
capacities
We support CSOs by helping them build capacities, facilitate social accountability, and draw upon cutting-edge expertise that individuals and NGOs may otherwise find difficult to access.
Mobilising
resources
We work with CSO partners to help them collaborate with state and local bodies, secure grants from donors, and give them technical assistance to raise funds for their work.
Providing platform
for dialogue
We are rooted in civil society action and have strong networks with academia, media, donors, UN agencies, and the government. This enables us to provide a platform for dialogue to all stakeholders.
