What’s New

Version 14.6

If you’re like us, you’re having to rejigger your day to make time for all the intense hand-washing. To help, we streamlined the Site Creation process, removing some intermediate steps. Pick the kind of site you want, enter a domain name, and you’re done. Use some of the time you save to disinfect your phone, too — that thing’s grungy.

To prove that we can still have nice things, even in challenging times, we added more features to the mobile block editor. The Cover block is now available; there are alignment options in the Heading block; and a dropdown toolbar makes alignment easier for Heading, Paragraph, Image, MediaText blocks. And we removed the dimming effect on unselected blocks.

Some of you have phones with casings that fold up and over the screen a little. (If this confuses you, then you’re not one of those people.) The layout of the Notifications screen wasn’t great for y’all, and some text got lost under the phone casing. That’s fixed now.

You know how sometimes you’d try to @-mention someone in a comment, and the app would suggest names and then wouldn’t actually let you select one? What a fun prank that was! Kidding — it was a bug, and we fixed it. We also took care of a few other issues that caused the app to crash when you tried to access the Site Pages screen or use the Quick Action buttons on iPads to get to your blog posts.

(And speaking of pages and posts, now that you can reliably get to those screens: we went ahead and made previews bigger for iPads running iOS 13.)

We like our Dark Mode like we like our coffee: really dark, and without any bugs floating around in it. There were glitches in Light and Dark Modes, and things sometimes went wonky when you switched from one to the other. There are far fewer of those glitches now.

Remember to moisturize after all the hand-washing! Hydrated fingertips are better for swiping and tapping. Stay safe, y’all.

Limited functionality

Yes, it’s a mobile app, and ten years ago that would have justified its limited functionality and beta-like business, but not any more. The phone I use today has twice the computing power of the desktop computer I had when I first used WordPress. There’s simply no reason a Mobile app doesn’t have the same options I can get access to through a desktop computer. Add to that it’s inability to communicate properly with the desktop site (like how it almost never recognizes posts started, scheduled, or even published from the desktop) and it’s annoying built in bugs (it’s actually designed to pick up already used tags only after you type at least two letters (really? If I have to remember at least the first two letters then I’m actually forced to memorize them all... so what’s the point?).

I suggest the top brass as WordPress use only this app for all their publishing needs for the next month. I’m certain we’d see some improvements. Until then I’ll just fumble through this as best I can going back and forth between app and desktop because, frankly, the website isn’t exactly mobile friendly. But then, neither is the mobile app.

This should not be happening. It sounds like you might have setup the Jetpack at some point in the past and now it's not syncing correctly in the app either because of a change to the plugin (was it removed?) or it might be another plugin conflict or server-side issue. We'd love to get more detail about your specific case to see if there's anything we can do to help. Please consider contacting support using the form on the Profile > Help & Support page in the app to continue the discussion.

New to blogging but wish things left alone

In general i dont like apps. It’s the icon god to a program. But forced into some things. I’d prefer if all companies took their time, made sure all changes through apps to iPads to software updates to those were all compatible. Why make tiny update to things to accidentally leave something off every few weeks? Then have to have a million bug fixes? So for ipad I cannot see some of my pics to edit them. But can see on the post. And i have looked at all things to turn off and on. I no longer have ability as of few months ago to edit or add other features. Like main picture. Add to my headings pages etc. They no longer exist in any menu?? In new blog or edit blog. The page itself has were these categories exist but now while creating or editing a blog. I am using a free version though. Oddly to get the “visual” view to show I also ave to turn it to http to force it to flip to visual by clicking it back. If I dont do that toggle off and on, all is shaded. It’s not a choice. It’s just gray until I got back and forth to get it to be not gray?? Thats dumb.

Developer Response ,

For the problem where you cannot see some of the pics, can you please try going to Profile (Me icon) > App Settings and tap "Clear Device Media Cache" to see if that helps in your case? If it doesn't, we'd probably need to know a bit more detail about your site setup in order to help. We'd love to do that! Would you be able to get in touch so that we can gather more info about your site and this problem? If so, please go to "Help & Support" in the app then "Contact us" so we can investigate it. Ver. 13.1 stats not showing for the current day

I updated my iPhone and iPad to 13.1 (had to completely reinstall the app on my iPhone a few days ago when an earlier version 13.0? was released...). It is about 6:50 AM on August 27th. The Stats display still only shows stats up through 8/26 on the iOS app for both iPhone and iPad. If I use a web browser on a laptop and visit my site stats, I can see stats correctly up through 8/27, but not in the iOD version. I tried to open a chat session with you on my laptop to inform you of this, but it wasn’t connecting to anything, so, sorry, but I had to use this route for feedback. Hope you see this report!!!

P.S. - My time zone is set correctly to Los Angeles in both the iOS and web versions. The latest iOS version history mentioned changes to the time zone setting, so I think this change was not thoroughly tested.

PLEASE MOVE SLOWLY AND DO NOT BREAK THINGS!! Facebook’s software development philosophy is total crap!
