Ao is a Kuki-Chin-Naga language (of the Tibeto-Burman family) spoken by the Ao people of the Indian state of Nagaland. The census of 1991 puts the number of the speakers at 169,837.Current estimates (2006) put the number of Ao speakers at around 260,000. The Ao tribe is one of the largest tribes in Nagaland and the language is popular in all the three major cities of the state - Dimapur,Kohima and Mokokchung. Ao is one of the official languages of Nagaland and is the main language in Mokokchung district.

Support Ao language is one of the major languages of north-east India, with various varieties and sub-lects. For more reference, refer to [1] A lot of Ao speaking people wish to read Wikipedia in their mother tongue as it is much easier to do so than reading in English. Strong support I am strongly for an Ao Wikipedia. Apart from Ao people, many tribes specially in the eastern districts of Mon, Tuensang, Kiphire and Longleng use it as a common language and hence is a second language for many in Nagaland. Please ask at translatewiki.net for support your language. Without the localisation of the most used messages, the creation of a Wikipedia for your language will not happen.
