Giraffe focuses on reducing unemployment in South Africa with an online marketplace that uses mobile technology to connect medium-skilled workers to employers. The Giraffe app is free to jobseekers and enables them to easily create a résumé and to receive job opportunities on their mobile phone. Employers submit a simple staff request on Giraffe’s website, and the platform identifies suitable candidates using a proprietary algorithm which considers past experience, job preference, salary band, and location. Once a match is made, the job seeker receives an SMS with details of the job and interview. Giraffe addresses the lower end job marketplace, which is largely neglected by current solutions and where the highest unemployment rates are registered.
