GOFER makes it simple to enter big data and reveal even bigger insight.

GOFER (the Global Obstetric Fistula Electronic Registry) is designed to document and improve every interaction between a fistula patient and her care team across the continuum. Along the way, we will capture an unprecedented view of gender inequity from the systematic failures that produce the most marginalized women in the world.

“To measure it is to know. If you can not measure it, you can not improve it”

– Sir William Thomas, Lord Kelvin

Data powers our world. It gives possibility to the unimaginable. But the poorest parts of the world have yet to enjoy the power of data.

Gathering and analyzing data is time-consuming and too abstract to prioritize over an unending line of patients needing care. However, digital technology can shatter the paradigm of clipboards, logbooks, and Excel.

We built a tool to bring measurement to fistula care.

Collect Data Anywhere

Our data collection system works anywhere – online and off. GOFER’s underlying technology was piloted, tested and refined in conflict zones.

Analyze Work with Ease

Entered data is automatically analyzed using statistical best practices. GOFER provides data visualization dashboards that give you an unprecedented view into your work.

Use Any Device

The GOFER app will work on any Android or iOS device. GOFER also works through a web portal that you can access on any computer, anywhere.

Keep Data Secure

Automatic end-to-end encryption. GOFER data security protocol meets and/or exceeds US FDA, HIPAA, and EU data security compliance.

Help Us Test GOFER

We are seeking beta testers to evaluate GOFER prior to our global launch later this year. If you are a fistula surgeon interested in helping us drive a quality-focused revolution, we’d love to hear from you.

Improves All Fistula Efforts

We developed GOFER to improve the accuracy and reliability of data collection and enable a collaborative effort to improve the quality of fistula care globally.

Our vision for GOFER begins by using the platform to unite and improve the fistula sector. With wide adoption, GOFER will introduce visibility into quality of care, improve outcomes of surgery and expand the impact of funding.

We aim to have over 50% of annual spending on fistula care committed to using GOFER by the end of 2016.

Informs True Innovation in Program Design

Fistula is the greatest opportunity in women’s health.  Not just because the impact of intervention is so high, but also because fistula’s myriad of causes, if understood, can reveal how and where systems need the greatest support.

Data on women with fistula allows us to better understand and target these systematic problem areas with highly-focused programs that we can continuously improve. The repercussions for these precision programs reach far beyond fistula.

Data helps design better programs and more visibility around women with fistula will drive more innovation for the entire maternal and child health value chain.

Reveals Sources of Gender Inequity

The current lack of visibility hides disparity, discrimination, and injustice, the burden of which falls unequally on women. Women with obstetric fistula are gender inequity personified.

Since fistula only happens where systems have most profoundly failed women and girls, data on these women and their journeys reveals the critical blind spots that produce injustice. By using GOFER to collect comprehensive data on the systematic factors that caused the fistula, we will know where gender inequity is most pronounced. We will also know exactly how to end it.

Helps Us All Do the Most Good

GOFER granularity allows us to drive catalytic funding to various points or people in the value chain. Performance-based funding tied to audited data provision transforms both data breadth and quality.

This level of data not only gives us confidence that our funding is doing the most good possible, it also empowers the people doing the work to do better.

In fact, when field testing the concept for GOFER, access to data scored as high or higher than access to unrestricted funding from every part of the clinical, administrative and governance chains.
