Your business relies on trustworthy measurement. We’re working hard so you can count on ours.

Reliable measurement helps everyone make better business decisions. We’re building smarter tools, growing our partnerships with measurement experts and getting validated by third parties, so you can feel more confident in the results you’re seeing.

If Facebook measures its own performance, how do I know it’s accurate?

“We have independent third-party partners whose reports can verify many of the metrics you see, we’re getting our methodologies accredited by industry experts, and we continually improve the measurement tools you rely on.

Our goal with first-party reporting tools centers around making measurement free and accessible to all businesses, so advertisers can learn what’s working and what’s not. These tools allow you to learn from each campaign and adjust your strategy to do your best advertising on our platforms. For businesses with more complex measurement needs or for those who want a third party to measure their campaigns, we also have 40+ third-party measurement partners who have been trusted in ads measurement for years, ready to help your business get the insights you need.”

Why are there discrepancies between Facebook’s measurement and my own?

“There are different ways to measure—especially when it comes to attribution—and they all do so a little differently. So it shouldn’t be surprising if you see different results when comparing Facebook’s results to those from another platform.

For example, there are a number of different attribution models that can each produce a conversion count that’s different from the others. While we believe our data-driven model provides the most holistic view of your customers’ journey, we don’t expect it to always report the same results as other platforms. That’s why we offer a variety of attribution models that you can see in your reports. If you want to understand how these models measure, check out our course on Understanding Multi-Touch Attribution or see the guide to attribution models, which breaks down all the attribution models available.”

“We’ve improved our advertiser tools, updated our metrics labels, expanded our measurement partnerships and we provide free insights reports to make Facebook measurement easier to use and understand.

We started with a redesign of Ads Manager to make it easier for advertisers to find and understand the results that are most meaningful to them. We’ve also shared detailed descriptions of our measurement products so businesses can understand how all of them work. We continue to update our labels and keep our terminology consistent with the industry, so everyone has clarity on exactly what we’re measuring. And finally, our Marketing Science team provides free insights that can help shape your ad strategy, even if your business uses another one of our measurement partners.”

We want all businesses to understand the value of Facebook measurement. That’s why we offer free educational resources to help businesses get started with measurement and guides for using more advanced strategies, like incrementality measurement. We’re thoughtful about our metrics labels, and we recently updated our video metrics to better match the ways people watch video across our different platforms.

We’re committed to third-party verification and accreditation.

Display and video ads on Facebook and Instagram can already be measured and verified by third parties, but we know that more verification of our processes helps businesses feel more confident. In the US, we’ve been working with the Media Rating Council to get accreditation for the ways we measure display and video ads on Facebook and Instagram. And we continue to add third-party viewability verification partners.
