    I'm curious how this discourse on Covid in Africa compares to the treatment of other serious infections like influenza that have remained truly global in incidence since the 1960s without being segregated to poor communities.

    There’s a lot of lumping, splitting and shoddy comparison happening here, and some sound hypotheses about what is being observed. But I would argue that specific forms of governance, health systems, and infrastructure matter and they vary widely across the continent

    This is literally an act of terrorism, using a method of attack on civilians that was pioneered by ISIS. For example here: . The individual who committed this attack in Los Angeles was pulled over by LAPD and then released.

    Right-wing media and specifically Fox News have been salivating over the idea of running over protesters for years and it happens pretty regularly now.

    Municipal policing in this country is a fundamentally abusive and broken institution. It cannot be reformed and every department must be abolished.

    Trump has 25% support in the 'Latino' community, which should remind us that like the U.S., Latin America was formed by European settler-colonialism, and many descendants of those colonists still identify themselves in racial terms. Convincing U.S. racists is another matter.

    one of the ironies of Trumpist anti-immigrant mania is that if US conservatives, and religious conservatives in particular, wanted to try to build a popular majority, they would allow a lot more immigration from a bunch of these places.

    I am puzzled by all the talk of anti-Catholic bias right now given the fact that if either of Trump's top two candidates is appointed there will be six Catholics on the Supreme Court.

    Pretty clear to me that a lot of professional philosophers don't believe in anti-Catholic bias. Well, ask yourself this: was your personal religion brought up explicitly in job interviews as a source of potential bad motives? Mine was, multiple times!
