    Insights on the findings of Freelancing in America from 's economist. It's especially important to note that skilled services are the most common type of freelance work. As Adam says, this finding is contrary to the frequent (over) focus on low-skilled gig work.

    That skilled services are most common is really contrary to the usual focus on low-skilled gig work. Indeed, few describe themselves as “gig workers,” while “self-employed” and “independent worker” are the most common descriptions.

    A must-read thread by Upwork Chief Economist . Jobs that were thought to move offshore instead moved to smaller towns in the US thanks to remote work. We need to encourage more of this - it benefits both workers and companies. Stronger economy + better society.

    In short, offshore risk wasn't related to job loss over the last decade, but was related to an increase in the % working remotely. Instead of worrying about how technology will lead to offshoring, we should focus more on how it will affect how and where work is done w/in the U.S.
