We detect and block millions of fake accounts on Facebook every day to ensure your Messenger experience stays safe and secure. The majority of these accounts are caught within minutes of registration, before they are able to cause harm.
Leveraging AI
We enlist the help of artificial intelligence to identify unusual behavioral patterns correlated with phishing, scamming, and other harmful activities to remove them from our platform.
Spotting impersonators
To prevent potential scammers from posing as public figures, media companies or brands, we introduced Blue Badges to Messenger. This signifies that the account is verified and helps you spot someone who isn’t who they claim to be.
Reducing the spread of misinformation
Providing people with context helps stop the spread of misinformation. Context Buttons offer you more information on the publisher behind each news article, and Forward Indicators alert you when you are receiving a forwarded message, which helps you know when a message you received was not created by the person who sent it.
Enhanced safeguards for minors
Keeping minors safe on our platforms is one of our greatest responsibilities. That’s why we’ve built additional safety features that protect children under the age of 18 like restricting who can find and message them.
