Administrators' newsletter – March 2019[edit]

News and updates for administrators from the past month (February 2019).

Guideline and policy news

Technical news

  • A new tool is available to help determine if a given IP is an open proxy/VPN/webhost/compromised host.

Arbitration

  • The Arbitration Committee announced two new OTRS queues. Both are meant solely for cases involving private information; other cases will continue to be handled at the appropriate venues (e.g., WP:COIN or WP:SPI).
    • paid-en-wp@wikipedia.org has been set up to receive private evidence related to abusive paid editing.
    • checkuser-en-wp@wikipedia.org has been set up to receive private requests for CheckUser. For instance, requests for IP block exemption for anonymous proxy editing should now be sent to this address instead of the functionaries-en list.

NPR Newsletter No.17[edit]

Wikipedia New page reviewer.svg

Hello J947,

News
Discussions of interest
  • Two elements of CSD G6 have been split into their own criteria: R4 for redirects in the "File:" namespace with the same name as a file or redirect at Wikimedia Commons (Discussion), and G14 for disambiguation pages which disambiguate zero pages, or have "(disambiguation)" in the title but disambiguate a single page (Discussion).
  • {{db-blankdraft}} was merged into G13 (Discussion)
  • A discussion recently closed with no consensus on whether to create a subject-specific notability guideline for theatrical plays.
  • There is an ongoing discussion on a proposal to create subject-specific notability guidelines for chemicals and organism taxa.
Reminders
  • NPR is not a binary keep / delete process. In many cases a redirect may be appropriate. The deletion policy and its associated guideline clearly emphasise that not all unsuitable articles must be deleted. Redirects are not contentious. See a classic example of the templates to use. More templates are listed at the R template index. Reviewers who are not aware, do please take this into consideration before PROD, CSD, and especially AfD because not even all admins are aware of such policies, and many NAC do not have a full knowledge of them.
NPP Tools Report
  • Superlinks – allows you to check an article's history, logs, talk page, NPP flowchart (on unpatrolled pages) and more without navigating away from the article itself.
  • copyvio-check – automatically checks the copyvio percentage of new pages in the background and displays this info with a link to the report in the 'info' panel of the Page curation toolbar.
  • The NPP flowchart now has clickable hyperlinks.

Six Month Queue Data: Today – Low – 2393 High – 4828

Relisting[edit]

Please see these relistings relisted by non-administrator.

~SS49~ {talk} 02:14, 17 March 2019 (UTC)

Why don't you warn other users for relisting? ~SS49~ {talk} 00:17, 18 March 2019 (UTC)
Because your wasting of my time proves me no time to warn others. And when removing a talk page section you always are needy of more of an edit summary than 'Ns'. J947(c), at 02:24, 18 March 2019 (UTC)
And you don't have to post any messages on my talk page. I don't want to waste my time. You don't need to warn me anymore. Thanks ~SS49~ {talk} 06:35, 18 March 2019 (UTC)

Your AIV report of 110.159.137.21[edit]

Hi J947! Since the IP user kept engaging in vandalism after your report at AIV, I went ahead and applied a block. However, I wanted to message you regarding the level 4im warning ("only warning") you left for the user's edits. We usually only leave level 4im warnings in cases of grossly inappropriate vandalism or disruption such as making threats toward other users, IP hopping disruption or block evasion, grossly offensive or degrading vandalism where revision deletion is necessary in order to remove it from public view, bad things like that... otherwise, we'd be warning the user inappropriately and insufficiently first, and not assuming good faith or neutral faith first (level 1 and 2 warnings). I just wanted to leave you a note and let you know. :-) If you have any questions, let me know and I'll be happy to answer them - just message me on my user talk page. Cheers! :-D ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 04:24, 19 March 2019 (UTC)

Ok I didn't realise that, I haven't been doing stuff like this for a while. Thanks for the message, J947(c), at 04:26, 19 March 2019 (UTC)

Two Barnstars for You[edit]

Special Barnstar Hires.png The Special Barnstar
Thanks for helping me learn so much about WP:VA. Linking my proposals for the same thing at different levels, suggesting for me to make said proposal at a different level, and using a great argument to help me know that Food and other such subjects do not belong in Level 1. You deserve a barnstar for the cool line at the top, the colored title, and having neatly-organized userboxes. InvalidOStalk 14:36, 22 March 2019 (UTC)
  • Thanks InvalidOS for the barnstars! And I might as well steal some of your userboxes soon... :) J947(c), at 17:45, 22 March 2019 (UTC)
  • You're welcome. Don't you dare try to copyvio my userboxes InvalidOStalk 17:59, 22 March 2019 (UTC)
