    I’m incredibly excited for Twitter to kick off , a new independent effort to develop a decentralized standard for social media. Please see ’s thread for more context. I have the privilege of finding a lead for this team.

    Twitter is funding a small independent team of up to five open source architects, engineers, and designers to develop an open and decentralized standard for social media. The goal is for Twitter to ultimately be a client of this standard. 🧵

    Currently, this functionality is available in the payloads for the filtered and sampled stream endpoints in Labs, but we expect to expand their availability soon.

    We know that some people who receive a large volume of replies may want help hiding them, and others may want the ability to hide automatically based on certain keywords, topics, or participants. We think developers can help them do this.

    We want to enable developers to build tools that help people get the most out of this new feature, so we’re working on a way to do that. 🧵

    The option to hide replies is now available to everyone around the world. After a successful experiment, we found that it’s a useful way to manage conversations and hide distracting, off-topic replies. Here's more on what we learned:
