sorry, for practicality I created a new topic.
as the title suggests, much clearer than before, I would be interested in understanding how and where to request activation of the Jmol extension, existing on mediawiki, for wikipedia pages.

(For context: Topic:Vb83qxm6k4e8u5gh). See the open dependency tasks to fix in https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T45616 and/or previous discussion in https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T18491. See How to become a MediaWiki hacker if you would like to work on code. See Bug management/Development prioritization for general information.
once again, I'm sorry, unfortunately I'm new to the whole platform with regards to these things.
If I didn't understand it I would have to ask in the already opened tasks to see if you can already integrate the 3D visualization of jmol in the wikipedia pages, right?
I ask only because when I looked at mediawiki I found that the Jmol extension already exists (Extension:Jmol).
Sorry for all these questions but you are the only one available to explain things for a moment and give me useful links.
There is no need to ask in opened tasks, as they are "open" (and not "resolved") for a reason: They are not resolved so you cannot already integrate the 3D visualization of jmol in Wikipedia pages. :)
I was not aware of https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Extension:Jmol , thanks for sharing that! See https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Review_queue for the steps required if you would like to see that Jmol extension available on Wikimedia websites such as Wikipedia.
I readen the page Review queue but I didn't found in any part of this how I can ask for see that Jmol extension avaiable on Wikipedia.
If I'm not mistaken, only the creator has the right to make those steps for the request.
what should I do then?
Thanks in advance
I was wondering if in the wikipedia pages related to chemistry, talking about orbitals, molecules and c ... we could add the 3D model of the subject of the page. I refer to integrating the jmol file / script into wikipedia pages to freely display a molecule, an orbital and so on in 3 dimensions. I think that such an addition could contribute positively in some cases to the encyclopedia. -⁓⁓⁓⁓
Hi, see https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T45616 and https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T18491
hello, thank you for your reply.
from what I could read the project was no longer carried out, I hoped that Wikipedia had managed to implement it and make it available for all its pages ...
@Shirayuki - Thank you for all your work on this page. Could a link to the current stable version of the software, currently MediaWiki 1.33, be re-added to the page? Thank you!
Hi, you can click on the first link in the first box ("Download"). I think the current situation makes sense.
What about adding a link to Release notes, either on the Main page or on the Download page?
De-duplicated. Thanks. :)
Somebody added the "Other languages" section to show also at the top of translated pages. Now it shows at the top and the bottom. I think it should be removed from the top since it is duplicated content and not very good for people who access via mobile devices.
Are you sure? Looks to me other languages section is only available at the bottom of the main page.
I am talking about the translated pages. And yes, it is also inconsistent to the source page, i.e. English Main Page.
I think that was inserted by @DannyS712; I reverted that for now in https://www.mediawiki.org/w/index.php?title=Template%3AMain_page&type=revision&diff=3453545&oldid=3392880
@Kghbln: I am pretty sure that some other pages need to be fixed. Languages list appearing on both footer and header in some other translated versions of the page (eg. Template:Main_page/ja and Template:Main_page/bn).
I trust that all translated versions of the main page have been fixed? If so, please close this topic.
If we have a good big download button on the home page to download mediawiki then that will be better. The link is OK. But If we can have a button then it is great.
@Ranjithsiji: No I disagree. Most people do not come for "downloading". No problem is solved if you click a big download button and then cannot find what to do with that downloaded file.
@AKlapper (WMF) I think the primary subject of this website is mediawiki. That is why I suggested this. I completely agree with you that most people may not here for downloading. But I think that the main subject of this website is to popularize or solve problems related to mediawiki. So in the first point download must be notable. One more the download button must not start the download instantly instead redirect it to the download and install instructions page.
Unrelated to MediaWiki/off-topic.
This question has nothing to do with MediaWiki so it is off-topic here. See for example https://en.wikiversity.org/wiki/Web_design
I want to translate the Wikimedia home page into Persian. How should I do this?
Now that the header cannot longer be translated, I used this to make the main page in German somewhat sane (also applies to all other languages), the header needs to be hidden via CSS. Currently the header e.g. says "Template:Main page/de" and I believe we cannot be serious about this.
Do not get me wrong, but the new image has issues. It is too dark, the people merge somehow with the background making it appear like an undifferentiated mass. Probably the top section needs to be cropped away and more brightness or so may help too.
I took a shot at making it a bit better: File:Wikimedia Hackathon Prague 2019 - 2019-05-18 - Group Picture - cropped.jpg. I cropped it down to the group of people and ran it through a filter to normalize the brightness.
Great, I personally believe this is much much better than the original version. Thanks a lot for working on this!
I suggest maybe using the other photo, the one where people aren't holding their hands in the air and thus obscuring many people's faces behind them. If easy, could you do the same brightening magic to File:Wikimedia_Hackathon_Prague_2019_-_Group_Photo_-_CLK.png? Thank you!
Took a shot -- https://www.mediawiki.org/w/index.php?title=Template:Main_page&diff=3249645&oldid=3247158 -- the thumbnail is not as pretty as I would like, so feel free to find people to try to do some more retouching.
Image updated to File:Wikimedia_Hackathon_Prague_2019_-_2019-05-18_-_Group_Picture_-_0391.jpg. May take a bit for translations to catch up.
Can an admin update the home page picture with the photo taken yesterday? File:Wikimedia_Hackathon_Prague_2019_-_Group_Photo_-_CLK.png. Thanks.
