Melania Trump's anti-bullying initiative under scrutiny after president's remarks about Greta Thunberg

US news Earlier today
After President Trump criticized the Swedish climate activist Greta Thunberg, who is 16, elected officials and others drew attention to Melania Trump's anti-bullying Be Best initiative. The first lady suggested earlier this month that children were entitled to privacy following a remark made by a witness about her son, Barron, during a congressional impeachment hearing.

So ridiculous. Greta must work on her Anger Management problem, then go to a good old fashioned movie with a friend! Chill Greta, Chill!

This isn't the 1st time Pres Trump has targeted Thunberg. He posted a sarcastic tweet during the UN General Assembly, after Thunberg was critical of world leaders for inaction on the climate.

Greta Thunberg was named TIME magazine's 2019 Person of the Year. She has been very vocal about her diagnosis of Asperger's, a neurological disorder characterized by difficulty with social and communication skills, comparing it to a "superpower."

Just last week the WH & allies slammed a Democratic impeachment witness for bringing up the President's son Barron in a hearing. Press Sec Stephanie Grisham called it a "classless move" & FLOTUS said Pam Karlan "should be ashamed" Greta Thunberg is a public figure but still.

Where is Melania with her campaign? Or does she only care about adults bullying children when it’s her own children?

Where is the faux “first lady’s” outrage about as her husband taunts 16 year old Time Magazine’s Person of the Year? She was so worked up when Professor Karlan used Barron’s name as an example about monarchy. But it’s okay for Trump to trash tweet Greta?

A minor child deserves privacy and should be kept out of politics. Pamela Karlan, you should be ashamed of your very angry and obviously biased public pandering, and using a child to do it.

Melania, we agree. Children are off limits. Tell your husband to and go enroll himself in anger management instead of attacking such a brilliant and courageous teenager fighting for climate change. we got your back!

I wonder if a 16 year old “chooses” to be a public figure, and whether her being one changes things? I think a kid is a kid and deserves as much protection as we can give her. Kind of like child stars.

Activists have stupid people criticizing them all the time, often for stupid reasons. That’s part of the job. Greta sought and has that job. She’s not equivalent to a presidential child. (The criticism of Karlan’s reference to Barron was ridiculous because it wasn’t an attack.)

The President's bullying of Greta Thunberg is a continuation of the hateful ableist behavior we've seen from him before. Thunberg is a child who is on the autism spectrum and it is wildly inappropriate for him to attack her.

The President of the United States should be setting a positive example and making children on the spectrum feel heard and empowered. Instead he's childishly taunting her because he lacks basic human decency and is apparently jealous of her success.

My kicker: Shortly after Trump’s disgraceful tweet, Thunberg rewrote her Twitter bio. It now says: “A teenager working on her anger management problem. Currently chilling and watching a good old fashioned movie with a friend." Thank you, Greta. If only everyone were so mature.

“No word yet as to how this latest setback to her movement is going over with the enigmatic first lady. We may learn from her outerwear on her next public outing that, well, she really doesn’t care.”

During her testimony, professor Pamela Karlan said Donald Trump does not have the power, under the Constitution, to make his son Barron a literal baron. The first lady, VP and other prominent Republicans categorized this as a shameful "attack" on a minor.
