It's interesting to see. I've spent a lot of time talking to mainly tech and startup people about Climate Change for well over a year now (without being paid). Had to write a blog post to get the same conversation out of the way:

Another day, another email from tech friend off to start new thing/fund/campaign on climate emergency. Feels like exciting & necessary tipping point! What exciting projects or people do you know working in this space?

Interesting, though, how you design social systems for episodic/ebbs & flows I keep thinking will characterize future work (knowing that's a privileged option). If most volunteers are older, how do we encourage civic duty? Can I have a year of pension if I want year out at 32?

Yes! Work is unevenly distributed, 9-5 is a recent invention, we should hope for busier times that demand long hours & less busy times over course of life, & 5 days/week works for few of us. Love that pilot happened in land of "karoshi" (death by overwork)

Tis a truth universally acknowledged* that if you speak about "ethics" at a tech event, the first person to approach you after will tell you how proud they are to invest/work with Juul, and mean it. (*three times now?!)

The resignations of women MPs have been making me think of this piece in : “You can’t easily fit women into a structure that is already coded as male; you have to change the structure. That means thinking about power differently.“

I've lived in California most of my life. With the fires, it's really starting to feel like the end out here. Cal is unsustainable, wrong for our time. Wrong design (sprawl), tech (cars, flat homes), politics (rich NIMBYs call all shots) My column:

Happy Halloween Eve! It’s time for another year of my all-time favourite festivity, Tokyo’s mundane Halloween costume party, where folks dress up as an utterly normal and boring thing Here are my favourite costumes from the 2019 event this past weekend

Several things true here: 1) experiments are needed to give us the "good" public digital spaces we deserve, so I applaud this 2) it's a little worrying that Twitter now gets to decide what "political ads" are 3) bots/inauthentic activity needs addressing if reach is the problem
