Nearly every single report on startups and VC showcasing that it’s ”getting better for women” focuses solely on gender. Each of them erases women of colour and hides massive gaps in opportunity and funding they experience compared to white women.

Hopefully one day we could talk about how the Wayans brothers don't really get the recognition they deserve, they’ve helped a lot of actor/actress artist catch their first break.. like Jim Carey, Jennifer Lopez, Jamie Foxx, Tommy Davidson & many more.

In the end, was a love letter to failure. Sure, the premise was frustrating at times, but the message of dogged perseverance was much-needed in an era where tech increasingly places emphasis on instant gratification. I will miss it lots.

Morning affirmations: Difficult relationships aren't necessarily bad. Easy relationships aren't necessarily good. Struggling doesn't make you inadequate. Starting over doesn't mean you've failed. Having big dreams doesn't make you unrealistic.

This is a good book that I’m reading. For anyone who wants to explore these ideas, I recommend: What Money Can't Buy: The Moral Limits of Markets

Can we have more intentional discussions in the “public square” about the moral limits of capitalism? I’m all in on innovation, entrepreneurship, and profitable business, but our current way of operating is out of control.

This story has two tragedies, one of which we're not talking about. 1) contaminated produce sickening and potentially killing consumers 2) the produce becomes contaminated because farmers are under no obligation to give their workers sanitary facilities or breaks to use them

It truly is and people are suffering. Maslow's Heirarchy is real...people cannot thrive if all of their energy goes into grinding endlessly to survive. Because of money. To me money means nothing if it's not being used to help the most people possible out of that brutal grind.

This whole thread 💯 When I first saw the story in my TL, I was like, "🤔I have so many questions..." Marco asks them all in here.

Things I’ve never heard behind closed doors: - He’ll never get hired because he’s a white male. Things I HAVE heard: - I don’t want to hire her and then deal with her pulling maternity leave. - I like him but don’t think we can put him in front of customers dressed like that.

This. It's like we turned on a machine, that worked really well for a while and then started malfunctioning big time, but the power switch broke and it's plugged into a wall in the back of a room that's on fire and filled with smoke.

This is currently on a path of continuing and worsening over time. It's one reason why we need to remake our systems in a way that changes how we value and commoditize things. Our survival depends on it.

White Americans are starting to experience what everyone else in this country has been dealing with since the creation of the United States. It doesn't feel great, does it?

This from the article: "Downward mobility is a relatively new thing for middle-class white people in this country. It used to be, if you were born into a certain type of family, you went up from there. To be one of the first generations to go backwards is often dizzying."

Everything that we need to *LIVE* costs money nowadays. And at the same time, there are forces at play that are making it more difficult for people get and keep money. It's exacerbating our previous social problems and creating new ones.

I can go further down this rabbit hole, but let me bring it back to the original idea... If you look at Maslow's hierarchy of needs, the two bottom parts are essential for survival. How much of does the average person have access to without money? THAT'S our problem.
