    It shows a mixed picture, with some families really struggling and lacking the support they need. Findings suggest the lockdown exacerbated inequalities with young parents, low income families and BAME communities having a tougher time & with less acccess to care.

    We have repeatedly warned of limitations of phone & video work with families in F1001days, including difficulties seeing babies& assessing their needs & wellbeing.Further developments in this area MUST consider the specific needs of the youngest children.

    Today’s obesity strategy is another example of Government not seizing the “age of opportunity” & recognising the value of supporting families during the critical first 1001 days. To improve our nation’s physical & mental health Govt must invest in the pregnancy & the early years.

    We need national policies to address child poverty and wider family support initiatives to help families to tackle and prevent obesity, starting in the early years.

    “The Review’s recommendations must be backed by investment. In order for Andrea Leadsom’s work to influence the Spending Review in the autumn, we urge her to publish interim findings... to ensure that crucial decisions on spending are not made before the Review is published.”
