Storkyrkan in Gamla stan

This is an opportunity in the pre-conference days to see, explore and understand more of the Swedish culture and cultural heritage. The event takes place in some of the main attractions in Stockholm during Thursday 15 August. There are going to be connections to the theme of the conference and opportunities to shorter edit-a-thons and with possibilities to more material from the institutions to take part of.

There will be two separate tracks to choose between. One in central Stockholm around Gamla stan (Old Town) and Nationalmuseum and one track around Royal Djurgården, a national city park with the open-air museum Skansen. We will walk together and there will be time for talks and socializing. Volunteers will be following us along the day.

There is a limited number of places and you register by signing up below. The tour is a great way to get to know each other before the conference. At the last stop there is a room for us and plenty of time to write in some selected articles so bring your laptop! There will also be good opportunities for photography during the day. The numbers of attendees are limited and the tours are free of charge.

08:50–10:45	Swedish History Museum	Q1726607	Swedish History Museum	OSM	We start the day at the entrance outside the Swedish Historical Museum at 08:50, at Narvavägen 13–17, for an extended guided tour through Swedish history. There will be volunteers accompanying us during the day.
11:00–12:00	VRAK – museum of wrecks	Q49103261	VRAK – museum of wrecks	Djurgårdsbron at OSM	Curator Jim Hansson from VRAK – museum of wrecks will meet us at Djurgårdsbron at 11.00 and tell the story about this area called Galärvarvet, the Galley shipyard, under the latest centuries.
12:00–13:00	Lunch	Q12896105			Lunch on your own but preferably together! There will be many eateries nearby the sea at this part of Djurgården.
13:00–13.45	Museum of Spirits	Q10676610	Spritmuseum	OSM	Spritmuseum is an institution which welcomes visitors who are looking for contemporary or historical information about the production and flavor of alcoholic beverages.
14:00–14:45	Liljevalchs	Q1632115	Liljevalchs	OSM	The Liljevalchs public art gallery opened in 1916 as the first independent, public museum for contemporary art in Sweden. The exhibition this summer is by the photographer Anders Petersen, who has spent four years documenting the people and urban spaces of Stockholm.
15:00–20:00	Skansen	Q725108	Skansen	OSM	Skansen is one of Stockholm’s main attractions! It is the world's oldest open-air museum and shows animals, crafts, houses and farms from all over Sweden. At Skansen we have access to a room in Baltic Sea Science Center with wifi so we can work for a while in a shorter edit-a-thon. Skansen is open until 20:00 and there are also several restaurants at Skansen.

There will be volunteers accompanying us during the day.

11:00–12.00	The Royal Palace	Q750444	The Royal Palace	OSM	The royal palace has more than 600 rooms divided between eleven floors with a state apartment facing the city. The palace is built in baroque style by the architect Nicodemus Tessin the Younger and is formed as a Roman palace.
12:00–13:00	Lunch	Q12896105		OSM	Lunch on your own but preferably together! There will be many eateries around Norrbro as it is also a Culture Festival that is going on in the central parts of Stockholm this week.
12:50–14:00	Museum of Medieval Stockholm	Q1632115	Museum of Medieval Stockholm	OSM	The museum came into existence after a major archaeological investigation on Helgeandsholmen from 1978 to 1980.
14:00–14:45	Kungsträdgården	Q926316	Kungsträdgården	OSM	Kungsträdgården, also known as Kungsan, is a central park in Stockholm with historical roots in the 1400s.
15:00–20:00	Nationalmuseum	Q842858	Nationalmuseum	OSM	At Nationalmuseum we have access to a room with wifi where we can take it easy and work for a while in a shorter edit-a-thon. Nationalmuseum is open until 20:00 and there is also a good restaurant in the house.
