Most work from our headquarters in Hamble, near Southampton, but some are based in other parts of the UK.     Administrator, Racing Department

    Salary: £18,000 - £20,000 per annum

    Permanent, full-time (35 hours per week)

    Location: Hamble, Southampton

    The RYA is seeking to appoint an efficient Administrator to provide administrative support to its Racing Department and associated committees and stakeholders. This role would involve working within a high performance environment where the aim is to deliver the objectives of the World Class Performance programme.

    As the Administrator for the Racing department some of your key responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

    • Providing administrative support to the Director of Racing and other senior managers within the Racing department.
    • Taking responsibility for the organising and arranging of Committee meetings. Including drafting and circulating agendas, taking of minutes, reporting & monitoring of actions and processing all related committee expense claims.
    • Co-ordinating accommodation, travel options and related requirements for meetings held in London and at different venues overseas. To include British delegates attending the World Sailing mid-year and Annual Conference.
    • Co-ordinating and allocating fleet of company vehicles and RIBs;
    • Providing administrative support to the RYA boat store, to include invoice production, van and RIB maintenance bookings and general resource enquiries.
    • To be the first point of contact for general racing information, via telephone and email, from various organisations. As well as general enquiries and requests from the general public for racing information and advice.

    We are looking for someone who; has excellent communications skills with the ability to interact with a wide variety of people on a daily basis; is able to manage their own time effectively, prioritising workload to meet deadlines; and is able to work under pressure without sacrificing accuracy. You should also have an understanding of the importance of confidentiality as this, along with discretion, is essential in this role.

    Administrator, Sail and Motor Cruising Schemes

    Salary: £18,000 - £20,000 per annum

    Permanent, full-time (35 hours per week)

    An exciting opportunity has arisen within the RYA’s training department to work within the cruising scheme. Our purpose is to deliver world leading training and qualifications in both the leisure and commercial sectors.  This is currently delivered in 58 countries by our qualified instructors through a network of RYA recognised training centres. 

    We are looking for a well organised customer focussed administrator who has:

    • A knowledge of boating;
    • An ability to work on their own initiative and is committed to getting the job done;
    • Excellent communication skills and experience of working in a customer facing role;
    • The ability to build, effective working relationships with external and internal stakeholders;

    This role includes a wide range of responsibilities such as administrative support to the Chief Cruising Instructor, organising training events & conferences and providing excellent customer service, whether that be face to face, over the telephone or via email/letter.

    Regional Development Officer (Midlands)

    Salary: £34,000 - £38,000 per annum

    Permanent, full-time (35 hours per week)

    Location: Midlands Region, home-based

    The RYA has a mission to increase the diversity and number of boaters within the United Kingdom, in order to protect our network of clubs, centres, class associations and support the broader marine sector and industry. Having introduced over nearly a million young people into boating since 2005 through the RYA’s OnBoard programme and 39,000 a year through Push the Boat Out, the RYA has achieved a great deal. However, the world is changing and boating needs to work hard to continue to attract new participants and ensure they are supported through a lifetime within the sport.

    The Role

    The RYA is looking for an experienced people and project manager, who will lead a team to deliver the RYA Midlands regional plan. Their remit will be to lead on RYA boating development within the RYA’s Midlands Region. This requires working collaboratively with a diverse network of volunteers, clubs, commercial centres and other partner organisations to promote and protect safe, successful and rewarding British boating in the Midlands.

    The ability to work constructively with a wide range of people is key, as will be the ability to network and influence more broadly across the RYA and with the many stakeholders and partners with which the RYA works. 

    Due to the detailed nature and breadth of the role, the successful candidate will have a strong background in instructing and/or coaching RYA disciplines and a detailed understanding of the sport or the marine sector. This role requires the ability to manage multiple projects to ensure the successful delivery of the regional plan. They will have experience of managing and developing a team and working with a complex network of supporting stakeholders.

    As our Regional Development Officers work remotely, the ability to work independently and with little supervision is vital. As is the ability to work to detailed targets, goals and ambitions. Home based, the role involves significant travel to clubs, centres and other venues within the region and regular attendance to conferences and events outside of normal office hours which time off in lieu is allowed.

    Web Developer (ASP.Net)

    Salary: up to £35,000 per annum

    Full-time, 35 hours per week

    Location: Hamble, Southampton

    The Royal Yachting Association (RYA), based in Hamble, near Southampton, is the national governing body for all forms of recreational, competitive and professional boating. It represents dinghy and yacht racing, motor and sail cruising, RIBs and sportsboats, windsurfing, inland cruising and personal watercraft.

    We are seeking a driven multi-skilled ASP.Net developer to join a thriving & friendly full service digital team here at the RYA. You will provide support to a wide range of internal partners spanning across multiple differing departments, including Training, Racing & Membership. You will also play a key role in our future development of new content management platforms and system functionality, and will work across our main RYA.org domain as well as several other high profile sub-sites (such as the British Sailing Team). You will also support the development of various apps and our two e-commerce platforms.

    Our website attracts 250,000 monthly visitors and has approximately 180+ internal users - we currently work in a Microsoft SharePoint environment with Sitecore Commerce. The RYA promotes the development of its employees, and as the post holder you will have the opportunity to become certified in these technologies.

    We are presently undertaking a next generation platform review which this role will play a key part in.

    Do you have the following skills to be successful in this role?:

    • Proven ASP.Net hands on expertise;
    • Experience of programming using C#;
    • Experience of using T-SQL to create stored procedures;
    • JavaScript / jQuery skills;
    • Design, development & deployment of E-commerce systems.

    Chief Executive Officer, RYA Cymru Wales

    Salary: £43,911 per annum

    Full time: flexible working is a requirement

    Location of post: Can be home based but will require regular visits to the team at Caernarfon office, as well as travel required throughout Wales

The ability to lead, manage and motivate staff and volunteers, together with excellent organisational, planning and communication skills is essential. An awareness of contemporary issues in sports governance and experience of the sports that RYA Cymru Wales represents would be an advantage. Due to the wide range of partnerships linked to this position the ability to communicate through the medium of Welsh is considered desirable.

    RYA Youth Racing Committee Member

    Voluntary: Travel Expenses Reimbursed

    The RYA’s ambition is for Great Britain to be the best sailing nation in the world. Do you want to be part of a committee who helps to oversee and steer this aspiration?

    The Youth Racing Committee (YRC) is a volunteer group responsible for policy setting, advising and challenging the staff within the British Youth Sailing programme at the RYA. Its primary focus is to encourage and promote racing for young sailors up to the age of 23, with a focus on supporting the world leading youth squad programme led by the staff, as well as ensuring we attract and retain young sailors across sport both as youths and beyond. You will also get involved in developing policy, dealing with selection matters and liaising with Class Associations as well as dialogue with other specialist Racing groups such as team & match racing, Judges etc.

    We are keen to achieve a broad spread of experience within the Committee and particularly interested in hearing from those who have experience in the areas of Windsurfing, Kite surfing or Foiling.

    If you can demonstrate the right mind-set, passion, commitment and competencies to help us achieve the ambition, then please read on.

    You would need to head down to the south coast four times a year for meetings which are normally held at RYA HQ in Hamble, Hampshire. Meetings are in the afternoon/early evening and we even provide some light food to keep you going!
