This page hosts requests to stewards and global renamers for a username change across the entire Wikimedia network. Please read the instructions before posting a request. This is also the page where the usurpation of inactive accounts can be requested.

Instructions[edit]

Before posting here[edit]

Please list the specific projects that you need to be renamed in under your request, unless you are requesting a global rename.

How to add an entry here[edit]

To add an entry, please copy and paste the text below into the appropriate section.

Making a request for your own account[edit]

For changing your username on one wiki:

Please include the following information in your request:

  • the old username,
  • the new username,
  • please sign ~~~~ request with your account for a simple move (first section), or sign this request with both the originating and the target accounts if you are requesting a merge (second section).

If anything is missing from your request, a steward will request more information. This helps ensure that you are requesting a rename for your own account. Please check before posting your request that the username you want is available. You can test that by going to the (new) user page and looking into the sidebar. If there is a link to user contributions, the account already exists, or check via Special:CentralAuth.

Private requests[edit]

Requests that need to be made in private should be sent using this direct wiki-email interface while logged-in.


Simple rename requests[edit]

If your rename request is simple and does not involve usurpation of an existing account or other SUL issues, you have two options:

  1. Use the request form at Special:GlobalRenameRequest; or
  2. Submit the request below in this section.

Please use this tool to check if the username is taken before filing a request.

I created the discussion page wrongly with my personal name on the ago 2017 (there is no one real account). Please can you rename the page with a new name?

Requests involving merges, usurps or other complications[edit]

@Smashhoof2: Yeah usurpation that account isn't big deal, but those 13 edit on account Smashhoof right now will not be merged. We will simply rename Smashhoof -> Smashhoof (usurped) and then Smashhoof2 -> Smashhoof. ‐‐1997kB (talk) 03:30, 19 April 2019 (UTC)

E to the Pi times i[edit]

Status:    In progress
The target account in question does have 6 undeleted edits on da, but all the edits were part of a set of relatively minor changes that occurred in 2008, so this request seems reasonable enough (at least based on my readings of global rename policy and the related RFC). The only potential complication I see is that the user also apparently created a global account in 2015, but this also means they can certainly object during the one month after notification of the proposed usurption.
I will also note for the purposes of alleviating potential concerns about concealing or obfuscating bad conduct that I do have an active topic-ban on en.WP that was enacted a year ago by the community, and this is not an attempt to evade that; it will be easy enough to note the rename on the editing restrictions page and duly note the old account on my user page if this rename is carried out. --E to the Pi times i (talk) 23:49, 19 April 2019 (UTC)
