Graham getting SecDef would be a huge strategic change...for the worst. It would create space for the US to attack NK w/out Trump's involvement, thereby ending the Korean War in a way nobody wanted

The left outside the US does the best job of explaining the theory of the case for multilateralism and international institutions

For those who love to include in their professional reading (or just love it anyway), some terrific new reads coming this October, including books from ⁦⁩ and ⁦

I heard rumblings that USFK never agreed to--and only peripherally even heard about--the North-South agreement prior to its announcement. This seems to confirm that

Trump’s comments on North Korea at this press conference are patently false. He has abjured himself from almost causing nuclear war last year, and has shifted that blame to Obama. I have a whole book’s worth of evidence to prove he’s a liar

How to bridge social dems who only define foreign policy in terms of "anti-" (imperialism, military, America) and left-leaning liberals who cling to military superiority and US leadership? Love Hal, but this piece doesn't do it

I have mixed feelings about ONA, but always interested in reading what Andy Marshall has to say

Have some quotes in this piece, though cautious optimism isn't how I would characterize anything relating to Korea

A lot of folks on the left would say this would be opting into maximum pressure

This is a good start. Where most left statements on foreign policy go sideways is emphasizing their/our moral superiority about needing to restrain the use of force without putting forward a theory that relates US foreign policy actions to expected outcomes in the world.

Translation of Pompeo: "Our interagency process is broken, Bolton refuses to schedule a PC to coordinate our North Korea policy, and I've tied my fate to making POTUS look good on North Korea."

A very good piece that my be too nuanced for social media—not a defense of troops in Korea, but rather a reasonable prediction based on history

Even the most doe-eyed cheerleader for Trump in Korea cannot claim what Trump does here: that he has diminished the NK nuclear threat. Wrong. Patently untrue. Significantly worse now than in 2016. Don’t confuse valence of relations w nuclear stability
